I'm going to continue buying Blu-Ray Movies and TV Shows.
I will upgrade CERTAIN movies to the 4k/UH format.

Of course not, I still buy DVDs as I am interested in owning films.

However, I will be among the first people to purchase a 4K Blu-ray player. Provided the transfer is good, Blu-ray and DVD upscaled to 4K look great. I am really looking forward to testing the first native 4K Blu-ray discs

Hopefully, the studios will be smart enough to bundle Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray so that people can start building their libraries.

If they start offering combo packs with Blurays/UHD Blurays right off the bat, then I will buy them and future-proof my collection. However, it will be a long time until I decide to get a 4K TV, and I will not be upgrading all of my movies to UHD bluray like I did with regular blurays. New movies and classics I love are the types of movies I'd get for UHD in the future.

Yes I'm holding off on certain titles for example the new Sony titles Dracula and The Fifth element there going to be released in UHD and I will be buying them but I am not holding off of purchasing titles like Cherry 2000 because I have no ideal if they will ever receive another release.

Indeed.

Anyone using music as a reason to see the death of movies on disc as around the corner is a bit deluded. 15+ years since MP3s hit the scene and CDs still match downloads for album sales, and vinyl is making a strong comeback. In short: both digital and physical can coexist, marketed and designed for different consumers.

Movies on disc will go on a long time. Some movies might go digital only, and many TV shows probably will, but the market will go on for collectors, enthusiasts and anyone who cares more about quality than the average Joe. The question is, will it be BD, UHD BD or something else entirely that dominates the niche market of the future?

We all know that new formats only succeed if adopted by the porn industry. So, wait and see.

(I'm betting they skip ahead to VR tech.)

No specifically UHD Bluray related but may offer a suggestion of what Fox might have on offer as its first titles for UHD BD launch.

Oh, and I think they will definitely do that.
They would be most foolish not to.

My local Barnes & Noble just put in a long section of vinyl a couple of weeks ago. I stood there and said huh? The salesperson said they're selling more and more vinyl every day. With customers requesting more titles daily.

Certainly, on very, very big screens......anyone will see an improvement with the large format classics. If they create 4K restoration masters of a lot of the CinemaScope and Vista-Vision films, they too will look dramatic, provided you have a big enough screen. They already do on Blu-ray, but will need huge screens to retain that level of "awe factor" in 4K. But for every splendid looking movie, there's a veritable ton of others that just don't "jump off the page". I think that is another reason 4K will remain a niche physical product. Also, unless studios are going to do restoration/re-master work as needed on titles they put to 4K, it's pretty pointless. Films going to Blu-ray should have been restored/re-mastered/re-scanned in the first place. Moving up to an even higher resolution just demands even more.

Your "huh" is 5 years late to the party...

I bet in another couple of years turntables will outsell CD players.

SACDs would actually be a more relevant comparison to UHD blu rays than vinyl records and ordinary audio CDs.

CDs have replaced audio cassettes and people are still happy with the audio quality a CD, a format launched in mid 80s, offers today. And most home video consumers are still satisfied with the quality DVD offers them, let alone blu ray. Keep in mind that people were happy with the old fashion tube TVs for 50+ years.

And as for vinyl records, well there isn't anything in the world of home videos that can be compared to them since it's an analogue format. The closest would be collecting film prints, but playing them is much more unpractical than vinyl records. Vinyl has a charm that is unique in physical media. It's an ancient format. You can go to an antique shop and find a record that is 50+ years old and it will play on your player. You can inherit vinyl collections from your parents, grandparents and even great grandparents.

With UHD blu ray, they're basically asking those who upgraded their movie collections previously to upgrade them YET AGAIN. And in order to play them, you'll need a 4K TV AND a new UHD blu ray player. A little more complicated than the much more simple vinyl-CD coexistence.

I disagree with this. I only have a 55" 4K screen and even the Netflix 4K shows, especially Sense8 and Daredevil, look absolutely mind blowing. Every bit as good or better than the demos they play in-store.

ultraHD blu-ray players will likely play 3D blu-ray, but as of right now there's no spec for 3D Ultra HD. At the moment they're mutually exclusive features.
