I'm probably opening myself up for some bashing, but I really liked Hudson Hawk. It was just so stupidly funny.

"Bo-bo, balls!"

Why is Waterworld not up in the top 10? Another one I really liked, in spite of all of the negative reviews.

Maybe cause it grossed Worldwide $264,218,220 and cost $175 million to make.

I have no idea if Yahoos list took that into consideration. But most of Waterworlds bad press came from the press. The production problems, the budget ballooning skyward, all over shadowed the movie. It was by no means a domestic blockbuster but not near the disaster people claimed it too be at the time.

Thanks. I've always read that it was a huge bomb, but obviously $90MM says different.

IMDB
Only opened in one theater (Highland Village Park Theater in Dallas, Texas) ran for six days, and amassed a final total of $20 (originally tallied as $30, but $10 was refunded to a member of the film's crew who paid to see the movie) in box office takings.
Ouch

I'm not too familiar with the movie industry on how it works but what exactly happens next when a movie bombs at the box office? Does the studio, director, producer, etc. have to pay everything back as if they're in debt?

But this thread is comparing the movie budget against the US box office takings, without taking into account the Worldwide box office takings, or, more importantly, the income from DVD & Blu-ray sales/rentals. Most of the income nowadays is probably from DVD sales rather than box office takings.

I bet most films make a profit once worldwide box office+DVD+Blu-ray sales & rentals are taken into account

I'm surprised there are only two Eddie Murphy movies on there. He hasn't made a good movie in ages.

Really? I think I laughed twice during the whole thing. I think the last Eddie Murphy movie I really enjoyed was Nutty Professor.

Even though Waterworld only did 88 million domestically, it covered its budget in foreign box office. Not a huge success, but it was profitable.

Speed Racer?

I'm shocked, horrified, and even taken aback.

This is balderdash!

The Wackoffski bros made a shitty movie?

Inconceivable!

Speed Racer wasn't that bad of a movie....its about 1/2 hr too long and to get kids to sit down 2+ hrs for a movie isn't easy.

I'll get it on ..not sure if on BD or DVD....for the kids.
