Default Bose Bashing

So i read a lot of bose bashing
on a lot of websites. i was on ebay and seen a pair of 301 v speakers up for bid i figured with the direct reflecting technology they would be good surround speakers(still haven't one them yet.) So like any good consumer i went and i researched them and i came across a lot of love and hate for bose, but i also came across this article. take a look

Seen it before - read it before, doesn't change my opinions. Some Bose owners are satisfied with the sound that Bose gives them - to each his own. I currently own a pair of 901 series V speakers (I use them for PA purposes only - I prefer them over the Bose 802's). They can play loud- very loud. I've also owned 501's, 201's, AM5's, AM7's, and the 301's. As far as rear speakers go....I may be crucified for this but the Bose 301 would make a good rear channel speaker (tweeters outboard for reflective purposes). I've always belived the 301 to be one of the better speakers Bose has manufactured. I wouldn't put any Bose speaker up against Martins,VSA,VMPS,Legacy,B&w,Thiel,Vandersteen, Snell and many others. They just don't resolve detail like the ones above (I can vouch for all of them except the VSA's - Woody can do that for you ) As a former and current owner of Bose products I know what they can do, but many other speakers just do a much better job at comparable prices.

As far as bass goes - the reviewer states that he first heard real bass with the 901's, well he hasn't heard real bass yet Even Bose knows the bass limits of the 901's (they won't publish it though). I have evidence of Bose knowledge - have any of you heard of the Bose Acoustic Wave Cannon? This is a valid (availalbe in only special situations and at a very premium cost - you won't even find it on their site) Bose subwoofer used with 802's and 901's http://cardhouse.com/x09/wave.htm in cinema applications (at least back in the early 90's). Bose knew of bass problems ... I did too! I've done DJ gigs back in the late 80's with 802's and they were lacking in bass then.

Ok enough of this Bose Bashing rant (I really don't bash Bose - I just try to tell the truth in relation to what I've heard with my ears) Back to reality - The Bose 301 should give you a spacious surround effect - and should work very well as a rear channel - you didn't waste your cash

P.S. The Bose 301 kills the 901 in sound quality (not spl, but quality)!!!!!

Opinions may vary but the facts of build quality and stats are not opinions but fact. You can do much better for the money. comapre specs with an other brand in the same price range and see the other will be superior. If Fisher was still in business I would buy their junk before a Bose.

I always understood most of the bashing had to do with the extremely overpriced "surround" packages/systems they peddle. I've listened to the 301's and agree that they would make a decent set of surrounds, especially if you don't pay much for them.

It'll be interesting to see how this thread develops.

First of all, if you need a system for a living room,or bedroom sized room, they work great ,and sound amazing!.....besides,people buy super expensive speakers that have a higher"full"range of sound(db's+ or -)...............Then they buy an amp that doesn't even use all the frequencies,so they don't get the full effect anyways. So stop this bose bashing, and leave people to enjoy what they have................frankly all of you bashers make me f@#$%ng sick!

Must we continue the pointless Bose threads?

Since this one is here already though - might as well have fun with it!

As for paper cones.............a lot of super high end companies still use them because they have the most sensativity and response to sound..........not like the "plastic sounding " half dampened sounding, next gen crap. If you think fiberglass, and carbon fiber ,and these other types of cones are better for sound ,then you too are a idiot who has been suckered by the man...........

This sounds like the same argument you get from smokers – they know they’re in the wrong, but they’ll fight you tooth & nail to the bitter end.

Me smells the rantings of someone trying to justify paying waaaaaaayyyy too much for a mediocre (at best) speaker system with no real LFE. But to each his own.

Yeah...those idiots over at Revel, B&W, and Paradigm have no freakin clue how to make speakers. Think how amazing the Ultima Salon2's could have sounded if only they had used paper cones!

If you like them, that's fine. I like my Onkyo HTiB. But I'm not idiotic enough to try to defend my system against really high-end gear, because I know its inferior. Bose is NOT high end gear, so don't act like it is.

I personally, have a live and let live policy with Bose.

I will by no means bash them as mercilessly and fiercely as others, but I also don't really care if you own them. If they make you happy, so be it - but I might hint at some better options in that same price range!

My only problem with Bose is how it has proliferated the masses into believing it is the pinnacle of sound. When I mentioned to my friends I was upgrading my sound system from the HTiB I used to own, they all seemed to say, "Oh, you're going to Bose?" At which point I had to delve into it all and try to steer them right. This one conversation I had with a friend of mine was particularly funny...he asked if I was going to Bose, I said, No, Bose isn't good enough for what I need - he responds with, Don't tell me you're going with JBL or Sony speakers or something!

Nope, friend, with Bowers and Wilkins. I didn't see the need to explain more.

NO HIGHS? NO LOWS? MUST BE BOSE!

thats what i say. im sorry but i cannot stand the sound that comes out of these speakers. i'd much rather take some boston or polk audio anyday... if you still want bose speakers, invest in an equalizer.

In my line of work I'm in and out of a lot of peoples houses. It's mind boggling the number of people who consider themselves audio experts because they bought a Bose system. The same people also brag about their 1080p Monster cables. All I can do is smile. Now if they ask my opinion I'll politely suggest a couple HT shops in town and point them to Blue Jeans Cable. Other than that, they think they are happy so I let them carry on with the illusion.
