Default Resolutions higher than 1080p?

is thier anything higher than 1080P? If so does this mean the current blu disks will be re-released again with higher resolution that 1080p.

Default Who really needs more then 1080p

I've seen an article online somewhere saying how 1080p would stay for a while. However they were going to concentrate on the colors they can achive aswell as how fast it would transfer all of those pixels...ei.hdmi 1.3

easily - 1080p is equivalent to 2MPx. Digital cameras and 35mm are much higher...

AFAIK, 4320P is in the works, but only for displays used in advertising.

Default Well...

There are the two Digital Cinema standards:
1080 x 2048
and
2160 x 4096
Both are standards right now in various phases of implementation.

Technically the 1080 x 2048 would give slightly better resolution as for the 1.85:1 imagery there would be no "black bars" top and bottom so you'd get the full 1080 vertical as imagery. For 2.39:1 (and such) imagery the black bars top and bottom would be smaller, again giving slightly higher useful resolution.

Clearly, the 2160 x 4096 would be higher resolution.

I don't expect either of these to show up in consumer electronics in any significant numbers within 5 years though. It's probably more like 10 years or longer.
