It was actually around much longer than originally reported. It was supposed to go OOP by the end of last year. And they price is still reasonable on Amazon, so I'm not so sure the set is OOP just quite yet.

I hope you folks just picking up the solo release of the producer's cut also get the extras. They are more interesting than the actual movie!

Though I'm not a fan of the producer's cut at all I am interested whether the a/v encoding it better. Hopefully some screencap comparisons and a BDInfo scan pop up.

Just when you think Lionsgate is completely out of the catalog game, they come completely out of left field with a release like this. There are no new Halloween films coming out, yet here they are, bothering with a release that no one really wants for no particular reason. Well, for those folks who perhaps aren't diehard enough fans of box sets or just couldn't afford to grab it, this standalone release would make sense. But, out of those, how many people are dying to get their hands on an alternate cut of mediocre sequel to begin with?

Make sure you sell your old (even if it's the 35th Anniversary) version of 1, since the version in the set has the proper mono.

Yeah, excited for the mono and the doc on the older disc too. I kind of want 4 and H20, so the set makes more and more sense at $80. I assume I can sell 1, 2 and 3 for a decent amount and avoid my wife's steely gaze about the difference.

One more thing you might miss - there's a special features disc in the set that they inexplicably put in the same case as Rob Zombie's Halloween II. It has several Horror's Hallowed Grounds episodes plus a bunch of other stuff. It's easily overlooked by those who don't like the RZ films and it's a great disc if you like extras.

[Show spoiler]Is this not the same version where Tommy Doyle beats the shit out of Michael with the pipe only to discover it was actually Dr. Wynn behind the mask or was that the alternate theatrical ending?

Maybe the set could just "appear" one day on the shelf. When she notices it, Just say "Oh yeah. You remember when I got that, don't you?"

I debated about the set myself. But I'm happy I got it. I even picked up the Zombie theatricals just to put a cherry on top. I'm done with buying the Halloween films. DONE.

[Show spoiler]The pipe beating only occurs in the theatrical cut, after Wynn's death in the operating room. In the Producer's Cut, there is no pipe beating. Wynn only switches clothes with Michael after Tommy stops him with the runes and escapes. Once Loomis comes back to check on Michael, that's when he finds Michael and Wynn have switched places.

Mediocre horror sells like hot cakes on Blu-ray. You only have to look at the boutique labels to see that. Back in the day, most of those horror films were considered junk. I don't think that about all of them but that was the popular opinion. Now it's like gold to a lot of collectors. With this being a film spawned from a name franchise, I'd predict it will sell rather well, especially since a lot of people still haven't seen this cut.

The worst of the series IMO.
I think you posted in the wrong thread. Talalay directed Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, not The Curse of Michael Myers.

I pre-ordered it. I have never liked 6, and I'm even a big fan of 5. I know this release might not change that fact, but I've always wanted to see it and never wanted to pay $100+ for that probably awesome boxset.

What I was intending to post was that we're just over a week out from the release of this movie and bluray.com, amazon.com, bestbuy.com still list this as running 118 minutes. I'm sooooooo curious to know if this is yet, another cut. Chances are its a typo, but its got my attention!

Almost certainly a typo.

Theatrical cut = 88m = 1h 18m -> 118m
