Please keep further posts on this thread strictly on the topic of the pros and cons of LCD's. As with any display technology, there are good and bad things about LCD. What anybody chooses is up to their personal research and opinion.

Any further personal attacks or "fanboyism", and the thread will be closed.

Carry on, gentlemen.

Default WOw - this is pretty funny!

I guess with HD-DVD gone we now have something else to fight about. ANd now, my tragic story, FWIW. WHen I went HD 2 years ago, I decided I wanted plasma based on many articles read and reviews reviewed. I narrowed it to certain models (yes, Pany was one) and was off to the store with my hard earned money. When I got to the store, I looked at all the models, and decided I preferred the pic on the Sony 1080P LCD to the plasmas. I was really disappointed because I had done all the research and knew what I was supposed to want. I waited 2 weeks, went to some other places, looked at some other TVs and bought the Sony. I love it. I accept that its about preference, not perceived accuracy or targets or whatever. I just like the Sony better. I don't dispute any of the tests or your claims. But I like it better.
I also prefer vinyl to digital, so...

That's pretty much exactly what my experience was, and I agree with your post 100%, except maybe for the vinyl part (I could never keep them pristine enough to fully enjoy them, but they do sound awesome).

We really don't need to look too far to find a new common enemy to replace HD-DVD... it's digital download.

I own a Samsung 46lna750 LCD, and I love it. The blacks are deep, and the colors are rich. I initially almost went plasma as well when shopping for televisions, but I watch a lot of films with aspect ratio of 2:40, and I didn't want to risk any burn in, even though I know most newer models don't have much of a burn in problem. Another reason I went LCD is that it seems to be the most popular for some reason. I don't know the future of plasma, and it could very well be around for a very long time, but I chose LCD for that reason too just to be safe. Regardless, I love my LCD. Sure, many models have their fair share of problems (e.g. clouding, etc), but plasmas have also been known for theirs (burn in in older models, overheating, etc). IT all comes down to personal preference. IMO, plasmas may have readily beat LCDs a few years ago, but a lot of the latest LCD models from Samsung and Sony def. give plasmas a run for their money in PQ... just my opinion.

So this may have been discussed in the 23402042385037240623498 posts on here but I was wondering why people are choosing the Panasonic or Pioneer plasma over the Sony plasma.

I'm currently looking to buy an HDTV and Sony was on the top of the list... but I definitely want to hear why you guys like the others better.

Because Sony does not make a plasma.

Edit: Anymore.

I didn't even pay attention... thanks. SO other than price are people liking Panasonic or Pioneer plasma better.

Sorry to thread jack... but this thread needed to die anyway...

by no means did i want to start a LCD vs Plasma debate, for the time being i just stated my opinion about buying LCD's since i, myself, feel disappointed even with one of the top 3 LCDs of 2007. i know OLED and Laser are going to take over and plasma will be 2nd best but still i feel displaced about the matter.

How do you know this? A buyer I know is at CEDIA and based on his report and that of others, Laser tv looks to be a bust.

OLED will take a few years to come to fruition to even be mentioned as a contender with plasma in terms of the size, price, and different manufactuers making panels. I remember when it was SED that was poised to take over the flat panel industry. Anyone remember SED? That was a quick death.

Price not a factor: Pioneer, hands down.

I've got 3 Panasonics, and am happy with all 3.

its kind of like some of these new tvs that are supposed to support 9 trillion colors when the human eye can only see like 4 trillion. Whats the point?
It is not so much a question of how many fps the human eye can see, but how many the human brain can translate into useable data. Humans can see a varying amount of frames per second based on the crispness of the image and what else the brain is processing. When looking at a large LED numerical display flashing random numbers, anything over 20 different numbers per second (give or take) start to look like a solid 8 because the brain "sees" brightness easier then darkness. Generally as the crispness and motion of the image increases the fps must also increase in order to avoid "stutter." Each frame of an action sequence will appear blurry, because when the fps are constant, and the motion increases, the crispness must decrease in order to appear as fluid motion. When played in sequence while watching a movie the brain then translates that blur into fluid motion, and the movie does not look blurry, even though each frame does.

In order to maintain crisp fine detail during fast action (think individual blades of grass that the running back is running on) the fps must also increase. SO, does 120hz make a better picture, or would 480hz make a better picture then that? The answer is no, because it was recorded at most at 60 fps. The only advantage 120hz is that it doesn't have to do any "guessing" to try and fill in frames. For the time being video and film is recorded in either 24, 30, or 60 fps (excluding PAL option of 25 and 50 fps, but that is another story) therefore the 120hz display displays everything at multiples of its native rate. Until someone starts recording or filming in a refresh rate faster then 60fps you should not worry about a tv displaying anything faster then 120hz. Just my 2 cents.

We'll see, however, it has been said that the price of the Laser TVs will rival the price of current LCD/Plasma screens of the same size.

I for one can't wait to see one of the Laser TVs in action.

The prices you state hear sound more of what OLEDs would be for a quarter the size.
