Default STOP buying LCDs for the time being

with 120 hz being blown up and prices jacked, and with the news of 240 HZ and plasmas still being a better picture at 240hz-300hz right now like the 85 and 850u from panasonic why bother ?? anyone agree?

Some people like the image they get from LCD. The games sure look good. Also, some of us have loyalty to brands that don't offer plasma. LCD isn't entirely without it's benefits.

I would agree with that only if Laser TVs are right around the corner. Better Pic then plasma cheaper and same benefits as any wall mount LCD

If I had a family room with loads of windows that needed a TV for kids to watch primarily during the daytime, I'd go LCD no problem.

I don't have any other reason to pick LCD over plasma.

It's 48Hz and 60Hz by the way on the -800U. The 480Hz is a subfield drive - it's how quickly it processes to pick up 3:2 cadences for example. It's not the refresh rate.

I really like my LCD during the day. There are two large windows in my tv room. Plus, its great for gaming so to put a stop or a "ban" on buying LCD tv's would just be ridiculous.....

Someone on this forum said they thought Laser was discontinued, and the Best Buy guy I talked to said they haven't heard a word about it (which probably doesn't mean much), but no one ever answers when I ask about it. The same guy was saying the new DLP's with LED had a lot of advantages over the old DLP (better colors with deep blacks), and that may have taken Laser's place. I was looking forward to Laser, especially if it's comparable in quality to LCD and comparable in price to old DLP's.

Before anyone says it...I can't afford to save thousands of dollars for Plasma.

Why save thousands?
You can get a 50" 1080p plasma from Panasonic for $1,500 (TH-50PZ80U)

Laser DLP is certainly not discontinued.

Mitsubishi showed off their 65" model at CES 2008 and their sets are supposed to start shipping this fall, so anytime between September 21st to December 21st.

I hope you are old, because in about 5-10 years plasma is going to be very dated. LCD even more so.

its really hard to stop the upgrade itch.. but i think lcds have improved a lot in the last 8-12 months and will do so even more in the next 12 months.. there's always something better around the corner.. i'm just staying away from forums and tv shops for a few years after buying my lcd during the summer

LCD was the better pick for my needs. I will admit that Plamsa offers a better picture quality and i would actually prefer a plasma.

However, when you live in a house with 5 other college guys who like to play videogames and pass out, you're just asking for burn in.

you said Plasma for Life. I don't know about you, but I plan on being alive in 20 years. Plasma is not for life, in facet its not even for the next decade.
