Default 3 easy steps to convert a PS3 into a stand-alone

1. Buy a PS3 and Blu-ray remote either infared or Sony bluetooth
2. Don't buy any games.
3. Sit back and enjoy

I find that if you keep it low to the ground and on top of a VCR (insert old piece of equipment here for heatsink) the noise from the fan is kept to a minimum.

4) if you have a one 4 all remote control like a harmony etc.. then buy a IR2BT so you can control your ps3 with your IR remote control... its great being back to one remote again in the living room... anyone for a spare ps3 remote?

You can also convert your PS3 into a play ground ball. Just roll it to your friend, and then he kicks it. Now you have a PS3/Playground ball.

Excuse me....You still need an HDMI receiver for HD AUDIO - no analog outs. Most stand-alones have them.

Never has it been put so precisely. It's often overcomplicated discussion that has always needed to be more concise. I can't understand any reason for a PS3 not to be the most valuable choice for the Blu-ray player in any home theatre. Sure, the analog out issue is somewhat true. But, most people will have a receiver anyways to make the managing of inputs/output correlation exponentially easier to govern.

If thats true, then why is that I can still tell the difference between Dolby Digital and HD audio? And I don't even have a receiver.

You listen to HD audio thru your TV speakers?

I guess that makes the Denon DVD-2500BTCI a videogame system, then?

Yes I do but my speakers try too hard to expand the sound and it can't. It does get really loud with HD audio though. With Dolby Digital, I have to turn it up a bit more to hear the words.

Erm. You misunderstood him.
The PS3 has no multichannel analog outs, which many standalone has.
Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio with 2 channel composite analog output is really pathetic.

Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't know much about this technical stuff but someone's got their facts mixed up.

.....Get a system, and tell me how it sounds. What I was saying is that the PS3 doesn't have the analog outs to connect to a ... Denon 2803 AVR for example, you would need a new receiver with HDMI to hear HD audio. With standalones that have analog 5.1/7.1 audio outs you can use an older receiver. No hdmi needed for sound. Petra knows what I'm talking about (thank you for understanding kind sir )

Oh by the way...my flame suit is...ON! (Some ps3 people get real crabby when you point out a feature that it lacks - most BD players lack something...PS3 included)
