Default Sony STR-DG1000?

I have a Sony Sony STR-DG1000 receiver, its hooked up using all 7.1 channels and I was just wondering why the heck do I have to turn it up so high to hear anything. To make it loud I almost have to turn it all the way up, when watching movies on my DVD player and when watching Blu-rays on my ps3. (they are hooked up with HDMI cables) If this makes any sense. Thanks!

2 possibilities....

1) Your speakers are inefficient
2) Not very high wattage output on 7 channels powered

Default Sony 1000

I think that's how they operate. I have the 1100 and it has to go almost to 0 to be loud enough. I don't care because I love my Reciever. Did you use the auto set up mic?

I used to own the 1000, and it really depends on how efficient your speakers are as to how high the volume setting must be. With my custom speakers -12 was extremely loud during peaks. With my ADS mini monitors it required a setting of -1 to get the same volume as my custom speakers.

Good receiver by the way.

First off thanks for the reply's! The speakers I have are: Two front Sony SS-MF750H 3 way + 1, 200 watts. Left side, Right side, Back right, Back left surround speakers are Sony SS-MF550H 3 way, 150 watts. Center speaker is a Sony CN-550H, 150 watt. Sub is a Sony SA-WM500, 120 watt. Derreckla, I did use the auto set up mic but I tweaked it a little myself also. So having the receiver up so high to make it loud, is that bad for the receiver? Thanks!

I use SS-MF550's for my fronts!

...and I have the WM500 subwoofer also. Very fine performer I must say.

I don't care what people say about Sony speakers...they keep me happy.

(but I would like to get my hands on some of those Polk M70's oneday)
