the titles I see coming out between new releases and old stuff seems so random at times.

They toss a bunch of film names into a hat and draw at random. Seriously it feels that way sometimes.

It's probably an overweight hollywood executive guy who knows nothing about movies or couldn't care less.

bunch of different factors.

1. DVD re-releases. lets say a title hasn't been released on DVD since 2000, they might want to do a remaster and re-release it on DVD, while they're at it, they say, well release on BD for the first time.

2. Movie Sequels. When there is hype for a movie sequel hitting theaters, that is a very good time to release the original on BD. We had to wait for Batman Begins, until The Dark Knight hit theaters.

3. HD DVD re-releases on BD. Some movies are still only availble in HD on the failed HD DVD format, these will be more likely to get a BD transfer than if they were not on HD DVD.

Theres more than that, but thats what came off the top of my head.

There is a tank full of balls with the name of a movie on each ball that has not been released on BD. Manatees select several balls and place them into a hole for specific release dates.

I can imagine the executives at the big studios in long meetings to try to decide which movies will come out and which strategy will be the one to follow, though sometimes I think they miss the target of relevancy.

They choose on which got most money and were most popular. That's why some are taking awhile, the ones that got most money are the number 1 on their list.

I know, it sucks.

I understand the big money movies getting the Bd treatment but sometimes you see some random old obscure movies that make you go, "huh? this is on BD and Aliens hasn't been remastered yet?"

Unfortunately some believe in quanity of quality. They know that if they release a movie like Aliens, then they'll have to do a superb job over the movie like Super Troopers where no one is putting the magnify to the test.

Some of the smaller catalog titles definitely come out only because of the whims of studio executives. There are some movies that the studio knows will not sell well and they release them anyway.

I used to think there was logic in choosing catalog titles until Sony announced Blue Streak.
