Default Dragon's Lair - The Movie (Don Bluth and Gary Goldman) KICKSTARTER

Quote:
Don Bluth and Gary Goldman are coming together once again to bring the classic arcade game Dragon's Lair to the big screen. We are seeking your help to create a pitch to make Dragon’s Lair, the Movie through a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign. Dragon's Lair continues to be loved by millions around the world since 1983, and fans have been waiting patiently to see Dirk and Daphne at it again. Join us in this adventure as we prepare to bring Dragon's Lair to a new generation.

It's been 15 years since their last feature film, and I have been waiting for them to hopefully return one day. I would not only love to see this movie because it's Dragon's Lair, but I think it is important to keep traditional animation alive. I hope others will support this.

That bluray prize is for the video game, right? Sort of a rip-off.

The reward:donation ratio is very out of touch - Im not sure these guys are actually serious about making the movie.

I agree with you on both points, but I've always been a fan of Bluth animation, and it'd be great if they could pull it off.

This Kickstarter ************** (fill-in-the-blank) needs to be in the WISHLIST section.

Are perks really the only reason some people give to a Kickstarter? I couldn't give a crap about any of it. I'll donate to it because I want to see a movie made. A perk isn't going to make me pay more. How much I can logically afford + how much I really care for the movie getting made is the only decider on how much I'll give. As far as the blu-ray goes, in the end this will be a studio film if they can make this happen, so they can't guarantee any perks geared specifically at the film, like a blu ray of the movie when it eventually comes out.

They sound like they want to make it and have the ideas.

Except that the Wishlist section is specifically for movies that already exist and you want on blu ray. This is an announced movie project that will get made if the backing goes through as well as the pitch. Plenty of threads that get made here with less.

I've heard very, VERY unflattering stories about Don Bluth, so as much as I enjoyed playing Dragon's Lair as a kid...no. Not one cent.

Agreeing with Ernest below me. No thanks to anything Kickstarter.

I'm not wasting a cent either on any of these Kickstarter 'projects.' No matter how appealing they might be.

Huge fan of traditional animation in general and Don Bluth in particular, but, sorry...YOU fund the movie, and I'll reward you with a ticket purchase.

My issue with Kickstarter and asking for donations is when the people asking have enough money to back it themselves.
I have nothing but love for Dragons Lair as I remember the release of it in the arcade and I was blown away by it. I was never any good at it though. Gauntlet I would be excited for.

Gauntlet was awesome! Probably dumped enough quarters into that machine to pay for my own arcade. Not sure how it would work as a movie though, there was no story that I remember, just hours of dungeon crawling, treasure collecting fun!

Not sure if a Dragon's Lair film will get off the ground, even with crowd funding. Don Bluth is notorious for not playing nicely with others...

See Kung Fury.

Having cool rewards at low cost will get more people to donate. Their goal is $500 thousand? To make a movie with that? I love their animated movies but Kickstarter seems a bit sketchy. Im not convinced that they actually want to make it. And what happens to all the money they get if it doesnt get funded?

The 500k is to make 10 minutes worth, which will be a pitch to major studios to fund the movie, as well as show those studios that people are interested in it seeing as the kickstarter got funded (if it does). Animation is expensive. They expect a full movie to cost 70 million at the least.

If the kickstarter fails, you don't get charged the money that you put forth. The money only goes to them if it reaches their goal.

I loved Dragon's Lair, too, but I'm not inclined to send Don Bluth money.

Do enough people even care about Dragon's Lair anymore?

I did donate to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter when they did that, which was an actual good Kickstarter and worth it, but I never got into Dragon's Lair.
