This blu-ray release was a pleasant surprise. The 3d is upper medium and the special effects are awesome! I also liked some of the humor. Overall, it's a feel good movie.

Agreed about Dinklage. It's like he missed the joke somehow.

Second best is Pac-man at the Golden Gate Bridge (which, by the way, doesn't occur in the movie -- Pac-man attacks New York City). Galaga is nice, but a tad bland compared to the other two.

Yeah, the $60 I paid for them is a bit overkill, but boy will three of my relatives be surprised when they get Pixels for Christmas (I'm keeping the slipcovers).

The 3D edition of Pixels also has a nice lenticular slipcover (I got my copy from amazon).

I drive a Mini Cooper! What do you think THAT means?

[Show spoiler]Just kidding. I have a Honda Element.

Wish you had a Mini Cooper instead, higher quality car than a Honda...either way, you'd still lose in a race with either car, I've got a Mustang GT.

Did this get a steelbook with the 3D disc? Or did I imagine that?

Bought and watched Pixels today, I almost never do that (but in this case I'm thinking I need to keep my resale options open).

The 3D is pretty good and even very nice during the effects, but the movie itself is not as clear cut.

Some of the jokes are funny but many are not, and alot of the gags are just weird and awkward.

The opening flashback gives you the impression that the movie will be more grounded and heartfelt, but once Sandler and James are on-screen that vibe is mostly gone.

There are some 'laugh out loud' moments, but mostly this is a check-cashing party for those involved.

The movie hits some bum notes with forced romance, unfunny gags, and strange errors (cheat codes for arcade games?).

I need to loan this to a relative for a week and then decide if I'm keeping it.

Surprised to see so many people saying the 3D was good. I have nearly 90 3D movies and the ghosting in Pixels is the worst out of all of them. I was very disappointed.

Ghosting is a display related issue.

Like I mentioned I have many 3D movies and none of them had the double images \crosstalk like this movie. It was borderline unwatchable.

It is still a display related issue that the 3D technology of your set is not resolving fully.

Just finished watching this movie on my 3d TV the 3d is great. I would call it almost demo worthy. The movie itself was pretty good not great but good especially for an Adam Sandler movie. I still think it would have been better if they had just done a full length movie just like the short film.

The other thing that might have worked is if they had done it Wargames-style, where the kids in the flashback were the heroes.

The attacks could have started in '84 or '85, so the kids would be a bit more mature and capable.

This was the scene that stuck out in my mind that I had described in my earlier post, I thought it showed really nice depth.

Amazing 3D film, in my opinion (once the "gaming" elements got started).

Not a Sandler fan at all, and can understand why folks wouldn't get into this film, but -- I have to say, I sat there thinking "they made this movie just for me."

Good--no, GREAT--demo disc.

Sony 55-inch, 4K, passive 3D display.

Paul H:

Next time you watch Pixels 3D could you take a couple of screenshots that show objects breaking the plane (appearing in the black bars)? I am sure I noticed a couple but they happened so quickly I nearly missed them.

Thanks,
Terrence

Interesting find.

The same Time Code for the 2D Blu-ray does not break the black bars.

This got me wondering, do any 2d movies break into the black bars or is strictly the odd 3D movie that does this.
My favorite use for the effect was in Oz TGAP by the way.

Thank you for the additional screenshots, Paul H. Good job!

It's very cool to see objects break the plane in 3D movies. It accentuates the 3D effect.

Umm..I could argue the higher quality comment, but why bother since a Honda is so much more reliable than a mini.

Not from my observations, but let's not get into that because I'll get too involved in it, lol.

So sounds like this has great 3D, lackluster story, semi-forced humor...did I read that all correct?
