Default 3D Motion Controller

I've seen on IGN this morning that a third party company was releasing next year a new 3D motion controller (very alike the wii controller) for the PS3 and Xbox along with a couple small games that will take advantage of it.

My question is what does they mean by 3d? The sixaxis controller is not 3d?

And my second question is why releasing another motion controller, when game developper barely use the one we already have?

Yep here is the thing. Personally it feels to me like they are to a great extent, copying the Wii's controller.

There is also this: http://www.gamespot.com/hardware/blo...site_blog=true

Personally I love the idea. Means I don't have to get a Wii now

Even on the Wii I don't find there is much GOOD games really using the motion controls.

I think it will be like the playstation eye or the Gun from namco. Good Ideas, good potential but no games using it

I think that there are aton of games out there that could be 10 x's better with motion controls. I never play baseball, golf, boxing, bowling, fishing, or driving games, but these games are way more fun with motion controls.

I have a Wii and have only gotten the Wii exclusive titles so far, but if R2 can be used with a motion controller, it would be a lot more effective than a controller. I would rather point at my target and shoot it than move a curser with a thumb control. It hasn't quite been mastered yet, but once it does FPS will be taken to a whole different level.

The wii remote is 3d as it works in all directions as in real life. The six-axis is not considered 3d as it only works in 6 directions/axis. It doesn't sense every single direction you could move the controller in.

But I still don't understand, If we take for exemple Heavenly Sword when you control the arrows, how can that be more 3D than that?

As for Wii being 3D, I remember seing during E3, that Nintendo will release a 3D module that you plug at the buttom of the controller to have 3D motion...

The wii has an IR sensor that can sense pointing, but also does this neat little trick... if you point it at the screen the system can determine if you push the controller towards the screen or pull it back away from the screen. The PS3 cannot do that.

The MotionPlus for the Wii is to make the movement (i.e. swinging the controller around like a sword or steering wheel) more 1:1. As it is now it can pick up which way you're moving, but it's not exactly 1:1 with the on screen movement.
