Same with V/H/S. It was dragging by the end, though the fact it was pretty poor didn't help.

It’s been nearly two years since Legendary Pictures announced a sequel to Michael Dougherty’s cult classic anthology Trick ‘r Treat.

Since then, everything’s gone silent…silent night that is.

Dougherty’s Krampus (watch the trailer) is a new holiday present fans can open in theaters on December 4th.

With Krampus on the horizon, Trick ‘r Treat fans wanna know what gives.

“It’s gonna happen,” Dougherty told IGN when asked about Trick ‘r Treat 2.

He explained that they had to move on the concept of Krampus before someone else did it, and “momentum picked us up and carried us off.

“Thats not to say that Trick ‘r Treat has not been simmering in the background,” he added. “I wanna get it right, I don’t wanna rush it.”

The 2009 anthology features four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; and a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.

Bloody Disgusting wrote the first review ever for the film.

I was thinking about the delay this morning and, honestly, I think it’s a good thing. Trick ‘r Treat is easily one of the best Halloween films ever, not to mention one of the greatest anthologies. How do you top it? Take your time Mr. Dougherty, we’re excited whenever you get it as perfect as a candy apple.

The article writer made a mistake, Trick 'r Treat is from 2007, not 2009. Eight years and no sequel. I'm glad it's happening. It seems like more and more people have "discovered" this movie in recent years and have come out in support of a sequel.

I would rather wait a long time for a good sequel than be handed a rushed out, bad sequel. So at least they've had time to work on it and perfect it. I think Krampus looks great and I'm excited for both it and TOT2.

It was made in 2007. But not officially released until 2009.

Can't wait to watch the first again come October. I can wait for a sequel though. But good to know it's still happening

One of the best. I love re-watching it every year. Glad there is "news" for the sequel. I remember the night it was announced. Cried like a little *****.

This coming Friday Legendary and Universal Pictures’ Krampus leaves coal in people’s stockings.

Behind this new Christmas-themed horror movie, which Kalyn loved (review later this week), is Michael Dougherty.

Dougherty is quickly claiming the crown as the “King of Holiday Horror,” having both made Krampus and the every popular Halloween-themed anthology Trick ‘r Treat.

Even before Dougherty was attached to direct Krampus, he’s been working on a sequel to Trick ‘r Treat, which was prematurely announced two years ago. Now that Krampus is about to get released, what does this mean for the long-gestured Trick ‘r Treat sequel we’ve all been begging for?

In an interview with Kalyn, which will be posted in full this afternoon, Dougherty explains:

“Trick ‘r Treat 2 is a really rough outline at the moment, my hope is now to turn my attention back to Sam and Halloween, so yeah, fingers crossed.”

An official release date is far from being set in place, but the news that Dougherty is still planning on making a sequel to his Halloween classic is exciting news, all by itself.

The 2007 Trick ‘r Treat told five interwoven stories that all occur on Halloween: “An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater.”

Rough Outline? I thought they had this one rolling already...can't wait for the sequel or even a prequel...kind of a cool thought to see Sam back in the dark ages of Halloween

I'm all over it. Trick 'r Treat is one of my most watched blu-rays. Probably won't be seeing Krampus in theaters, but I wish it well.

Why do I feel like this is going to take forever/never come to light? I remember freaking out when it was announced... and it has been YEARS now and they only have a rough outline? I'm all for taking their time and doing a good job with it, but how much longer will it be? At this point, I can't see it being released probably until Fall 2017. Because I don't think they would release it outside the fall... and even if the were to start shooting next summer, it wouldn't be ready for quite some time. So I think the earliest possible would be Fall 2017 at this point

I'd rather they take their time than do it right, than rush it and have it underwhelm. I have enough stuff I want to see in the meantime to hold me over.

Krampus' good showing at the Box Office certainly won't hurt its chances. I'd wager we'll get it in 2017 at the latest. I'd say Dougherty will get started on this ASAP.

TRICK 'R TREAT 2 UPDATE

In a new commentary moderated by Dead Meat’s James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca, Doughtery confirms that he wrote Trick ‘r Treat 2 with his Krampus collaborators Todd Casey and Zach Shields and it’s already storyboarded, but getting it made within the studio system is complicated.

“It’s tricky, because I think we really did capture lightning in a bottle with this one, and it nearly killed me. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the bulk of our favorite horror movies, especially the ones that introduced new horror icons, were all independent movies,” Dougherty explains, citing the likes of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

“There aren’t the typical metrics that a studio can point to to make it an easy ‘yes.’ Something I was adamant about in the sequel was that it has to retain this nonlinear storytelling, [and] it has to retain that weird mix of horror and comedy,” he notes.

Dougherty continues, “I want to do it. It’s not dead by any stretch. We have some momentum moving in the right direction for sure, but I’m also of the belief that I’m not going to compromise or make sacrifice just to make a sequel. It has the be under the right conditions with the right resources. Otherwise, I will be content with just letting this be this weird little movie that fought its way through a lot of adversity.”

He adds, “But I’m very, very happy with the script for the sequel.”
