Hopefully BD prices will fall and UHD will replace them at their current price range... after a honeymoon period perhaps. No way I would pay $40 for a single in-print movie title... ever. For any reason.

I'd rather go 3D 2K up scaled than 4k 2D.

2K DCP for theaters, but 4K is needed at home.

Don't matter. With hdr and 10 bit color, it will look insane on disc. Blu ray will instantly look like garbage to the enthusiasts.

Yeah and we're saying that UHD 4K is shit as long as we're getting screwed out of having 3D at the same time.

No good reason for there not to be a UHD 3D release, this new format is ass backwards, it brings all these new picture enhancements like 10-bit, HDR, etc. but it does away with one of the best picture enhancements we got during the 1080p era? What the shit?

I won't be buying any movie in 4K Blu-ray if it has a 3D version available on 2K Blu-ray because 3D overrides resolution...

I know that 3D isn't part of the UHD 4K Blu-Ray specifications, but can anyone tell me if that means that it can't somehow be included in future releases if hardware manufacturers decide to bulld it in as a feature regardless of the agreed specs?

I'm all in at any price early on. May buy at the same time as a UHD player if they can get this out by March.

They could include it right now on a UHD Blu-ray disc if they wanted to, using the side-by-side or top-bottom 3D format. This would allow for a stereoscopic 3D picture with twice the resolution of 1080p, as well as all the other enhancements of the UHD Blu-ray format -- 10 bit, HDR, etc. I know for a fact that Samsung's 2014 and 2015 series 4K TVs with 3D support will accept a 3840x2160 side-by-side signal and create a 3D image at 4K resolution out of it. I play PC games all the time in 4K + stereoscopic 3D on my JS9500 using TriDef and its side-by-side output function. Sure, it's not as perfect as frame-packed 3D suport would be since the effective resolution of side-by-side 3D is 1920x2160, but that is still 2x the amount of pixels of 1080p so it would be a considerable improvement.

But of course, the studios will never release a side-by-side 3D 4K Blu-ray disc and will instead force us to choose between 4K in 2D with HDR/10-bit, or 1080p in 3D instead.

MSRP on most studio new release titles is already $30 for Blu-ray 2D and $40 for Blu-ray 3D.

How often do we actually pay that for these movies though?

If MSRP for UltraHD Blu-ray came in at $40 or $50, I wouldn't be surprised or put off. But at the end of the day we'll probably be actually walking out the door with them for around $30, which would be fine.

MSRP on this title is $50 for 3D, but it's street price is $27.99. Even if the UHD version comes in with an MSRP of $60 it'll probably sell for around $35 to $40.

I won't be rushing out to stock up on every available title at that price, but for some movies I will. That's still less money than I've paid for many of my movies based on packaging alone. Hello $60 steelbooks, I see you over there taunting me.
