The man is one of the greats

Top 5 Hackman films:
  1. French Connection
  2. The Conversation
  3. Eureka
  4. The Royal Tenenbaums
  5. Unforgiven

And I too believe that he stills the show in Birdcage !

Just caught these on tv last week, I'd love to see them on Blu ray! Kinda surprised they're not available yet.

Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors, he elevates any movie he's in. Too bad he retired.

I'm not a huge fan of Hackman, but I liked him in the "Superman" movies, "Enemy of the State", and "Quick and the Dead".

His role in The Quick and the Dead was so deliciously evil. That's one of my favorites. Uncommon Valor is a really good movie, too, and I like Narrow Margin as well. Probably considered one of his lesser movies, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed Behind Enemy Lines, too.

Like octagon said, a great actor who always brings his A game, even if the rest of the movie isn't particularly great.

Excellent actor and one of my favourites. Any film he is in he elevates. I could list nearly every film of his and say they are great, but my personal favourites are:

Superman: The Movie
Superman II
The French Connection (his best film?)
Narrow Margin

I saw The Package last year, which also had Tommy Lee Jones in it, and it was pretty good too.

Just bought Heist on DVD. Not waiting any longer for a Blu-ray to see this movie I've heard so much about, not when the DVD is selling for less than $5 brand new.

Such a talented actor. Knows how to get you to have a distaste for his villains. Uncommon Valor would be my pick for a bd. Mississippi Burning needs a wide release to.

Been a big fan of his since I was real young. It's a shame he retired, would have liked to have seen him in a few more movies.

It's funny because although they are just playing characters, Gene Hackman along with James Caan are two of those actors that seem intimidating as all hell. Like you don't want to mess with them or face the wrath hahaha.

What, no love for "The Package"? Well, it's not one of his absolute best, but it's a real treat if you haven't seen it yet.

During the '80s Hackman and Michale Caine were two of my favorite actors. Sadly, much of their '80s output is best forgotten as they were both definitely in paycheck mode back then. Found it amusing that despite their prolific careers, they only were in one film together. And it was one of those star studded films that had "everyone" in it: A Bridge Too Far. Not the greatest film, but it did have great moments.

My personal favorite Gene Hackman film has to be The Poseidon Adventure.

Yeah, I was also worried that he'd passed away. I want him to live a long life and enjoy his retirement. He deserves it after such a great career. He's one of my favorite actors.

Some of my favorite roles of his are in Young Frankenstein, Royal Tenenbaums, Unforgiven, The Conversation/Enemy of the State, French Connection 1 & 2 and Superman 1 & 2.

I need to see more of his work, though, so I can appreciate him even further.

I really like Heist, he carries the film in my opinion........... although in all honesty, I've never seen a role he played that I didn't like.

I really need to hunt down the Bluray though, I haven't seen that movie since August of 2010.
I'll lend my vote to that one.Could that be labelled as one of all-times under rated movies?Whenever I ask people about it they either haven't seen it,or they thought it was just another sport related movie.A true gem.

I've heard that Hackman can be very difficult to work with and have read some fairly damning stories about him, which if true, don't paint him in a great light.

That said he is a superb actor, my favourite performance of his is probably Crimson Tide, the double whammy of him and Denzel Washington is fantastic.

OP is also missing Eureka (A precursor to There Will Be Blood) which stars Gene alongside Rutger Hauer, Joe Pesci & Mickey Rourke, due to be part of the MOC range in a few months. Last period of the film drags it down, polarising audiences. Certainly has it's moments though.

No love for Penn's Night Moves? A fantastic 70's thriller.
