Gene Hackman - Blu-ray Forum

Gene Hackman has been a fixture in Cinema for decades. He retired from acting way back in early 2000's and has since made very little public appearances unless out promoting a book he co-wrote. Today 1/30/16 he turns 86 years old which is an amazing number 1 but also his talents are missed in film. Like Sir Sean Connery I highly doubt Mr. Hackman will come out of retirement for one more film. But we have his vast filmography to enjoy over and over. I'm not a fan of Basketball but Hoosiers is the movie I most enjoy of Mr. Hackman's filmography.

I really need to hunt down the Bluray though, I haven't seen that movie since August of 2010.

Hackman makes for a great villain with his voice and style.
I'm thinking of his voice over as General Mandible in Antz. Great villain in that movie among other roles.

Behind Enemy Lines I remember also.

I have yet to see The French Connection with that big car chase, but it's on my list of movies to see. I had no idea there was a sequel. How was that one?

Full filmography, retired 2004 as the last film. I don't blame him as now he can retire doing all the things he wanted to when not acting.

My two favourite Hackman films are Behind Enemy Lines and Enemy of the State. What a fantastic actor.

excellent films. I also love the fact the Enemy of the State is a loose sequel to The Conversation.

Yes. I really enjoy the adventure of Behind Enemy Lines and Hackman as the guy trying to guide Owen Wilson through it all despite the resistance for Hackman to "Leave it alone or lose your job in the service".

Gene Hackman is one of the best actors in the industry. He even stole the show in: The Birdcage, especially when he dressed in drag and was singing Sister Sledge's: We Are Family. I laughed so hard, that I almost cried. That scene alone was phenomenal!

Damn, me too!!! I saw the thread and I immediately thought he passed away. That was my first thought. Thank God its a birthday and not the day he passed. The French Connection and Behind Enemy Lines I love. I like almost everything Hackman's been in. Even Superman lV. Lol!!

Those are some wonderful flicks listed. What a great talent. My buddy has a restaurant up in Santa Fe and says Hackman is a regular there and just a nice gentlemen.

Hackman is a beast.

....unfortunately he retired on one of the worst films ever made

Definitely The Conversation and The French Connection are tops from him for me. I also like Superman and Get Shorty, and French Connection II is underrated. I also think, although the movie is merely a decent thriller, the big scene between Hackman and Hoffman in Runaway Jury is pretty great.

My favourite actor. He has that very rare ability to look completely at home in any part, like you're seeing him in any day from that character's life.

He's never been less than excellent in any part and I'll watch anything he's in but the ones I like most are:
The Conversation
Unforgiven
Heartbreakers

The Mexican is available on blu in Germany

I have it and it's region free, or region A & B........ nice pq and aq. Recommended.

That really is one of the greatest things about him. He's been in some iffy movies but I can't remember ever seeing him phone something in. I mean, he gave an honest effort on Superman IV.

Good list but you're missing an excellent movie that is on BD. Prime Cut, starring Hackman and Lee Marvin.
