Default HD GURU 2008 HDTV Resolution Tests

Pretty interesting stuff!

Will You See All The HDTV Resolution You Expected? 125 2008 Model Test Results

The new motion resolution test is fairly interesting! With only one tv to resolve all 1080 lines during the test (Samsung LN-46A950 in a specific configuration) followed by the Pioneer, Panasonic and other plasma displays.

Unfortunately HD Guru also notes that this Samsung drops to 330/1080 in any other configuration and will NOT pass 3:2 tests with motion plus set to "ON" in any shape or form.

Meaning, you either deal with poor 3:2 cadence or motion blurring.

I thought there had been some advances with the 120Hz LCD's but Gary's results show that all the big 120Hz LCD sets from Sharp, Sony and Samsung still stuggle to get above 600/1080 for motion resolution.

It's a shame he didn't get any of the 850U panny's.

This shows the Pioneer plasma is still the premiere display available today.

You needed a test to tell you that?

How does Merson get hold of one of those 150" 2160p Panasonic plasma's?

Thinking out loud, this all begs a few questions:

Will the next generation of 1080p projectors, which have 120Hz refresh rate and motion interpolation, perform better or worse than current models?

How do high definition CRT displays perform with motion resolution? (I assume potentially very well).

And what of plasmas, which do well without such technology?

Cools beans. Makes me feel good about my decision to get the Pioneer 5020 here in the coming months (not that I hadn't already done the research and determined it was the best option).

Default Similiar Thread already started.

I just saw that there is a sticky on the same test results. When I started this thread I didn't see it. I looked too, I must have overlooked it. Sorry. Just letting the mods know if they want to move the thread.

Yeah, but compare prices. All LCD's priced similarly to the Pannys get spanked, at half the price on Amazon.

The Sammy does have great blacks, but still suffers from other issue just as do all lcd's.

The test was for motion resolution, not blacks. Best motion resolution EVER tested, now you have to admit that is pretty impressive.

Im not discounting it by any means, but theres more to the whole package and price is one of them.

If LCD's like this in a 52" model can hit the $2000-$2200 price point, then plasma is officially dead.

Id say Plasma has about 2 good years left, the second year they begin getting beat. Then here comes OLED.

I do hate to see plasma go, have always like them. My next tv will hopefully be an OLED. Ill be keeping this 85u for awhile, its a great tv.

Yeah, if Samsung would have passed the 3:2 test they would have nailed it. For the money right now I would still go plasma....

Yeah. Id also like to see them address a better viewing angle too. I think the 2009 Sammy LCD's wont be playing catchup anymore, theyll be leading the way full force.

In the Cnet review, the 950 gave the Kuro a run for blacks.

...what? Why in the world would an inferior technology replace plasma? The only LCD that come close to a Kuro...might be a Kuro LCD soon, but that is it.

I will never understand why so many enjoy motion blur so much.

Did you even read that article? Samsung 950 eliminated motion blur, resolving MORE lines than even the Kuro.

Well, the 950 has more line of resolution than a Kuro and ALMOST tied the Kuro in black output. LCD is making leaps and bounds and is catching plasma. I love plasma as much as the next guy, but Samsung just fired a shot across the bow.

Its exciting that Pioneer is heading into LCD, but plasmas days are numbered. LCD is prob destined to be killed one day by OLED.

Its just like the HD wars, competition is good.

LCD's are for the poor souls who base their decision to purchase on a trip to Best Buy. They love grey rather than black and believe motion blur looks great. LCD's have to compenstate for inferior technology and fall short of doing so.

With LCD vs. Plasma/DLP...often times with LCD you're paying more for less.
