Don't think I've seen a set with 720p/1080i resolution....

768p, yes.

I've got 2 of those, one 480p plasma and multiple SD tube sets. Not sure what the resolution of the screen in the SUV is, but I suspect no better than 480p (probably just SD).

720p for my 40" sammy will do just fine until i decide to upgrade i could barely tell a difference on the 1080p version anyways. wasnt worth the extra $300

it really depends on your viewing distance. Farther than 7 ft away and you can't see a difference, but there are seats in my livingroom closer than that distance. So it just made sense for me.

37" Magnavox has only 720p. But it still looks pretty good, considering I bought the television for only around less than 500. I'll probably upgrade in a year or so.

I suggest you learn a few things about all of this before you post ignorant statements like that. Viewing distance, screen size and one's own vision determine the need for 1080p or not, and resolution is only a small pert of the overall picture quality.
