Thanks for the reply.
I see there were some considerable improvements in a few areas.
Did you send for the blue-filter glasses or just "eyeball"? What "mode" did you calibrate it in? How much more noticeable was the picture from the old to the new settings? Do you know what Blu-ray movies include it?
I am leaning toward a professional calibration, possibly after the income tax return. That does depend on when, or if, a reputable one is in my area though.
I spent months on research before I chose the Panny, reading both professional reviews and AVS Forum's "Official ZT60 Owner's Thread" posts before I purchased it. I mush have gotten one of the "good" ones, as I have no fan noise and have never had any IR whatsoever. Again, thanks for your reply, I'm always glad to hear other's opinions on how to make what many (including myself) consider the best TV better.

Hi there

Yes there are some considerable improvements to be gained from a calibration for sure, the colors look so much more lifelike. I employed a fully qualified THX Video Professional (Levels 1 & 2), Julian Scott from Display Calibration. He did a fantastic job both of the actual calibration and explaining the process to me.

Julian opened the professional modes and used the full calibration suit. I ended up with day and night 2D modes and a night 3D mode, all locked and saved within the memory. I only use the night mode as the filter does such a good job of rejecting ambient and sunlight.

Find his details below but he's in the UK. So you will need to find a THX qualified Video Professional with Levels 1 & 2 in your area. Make sure they are THX qualified though as they adhere to strict THX rules and have to send your calibration to THX for approval etc.

Good luck

Well, As a VT50 owner wanting to get into UHD I went to a Sony 930C XBR. That ended up not being my cup of tea and I took delivery of a 65" 9500 Monday.

I can say, without a doubt, this produces the best image I personally have seen to date from a flat panel. Mine is a Jan 2016 build and the styling is gorgeous as well. I think the stand weighs more than the 1/4" thick panel!

I am using deblur at 10 (650 lines of motion rez) and dejudder at 2 (small bit of frame creation) and I think it looks great. Watched some scenes from Dark Knight and then hit some 3D from Tron Legacy. I remember when the VT50 had to jack up brightness for 3D you could see it in the bars even with the glasses on, the OLED is way better. Plus its passive with 1080p at each eye. This will get me back into 3D, which I thought Id never do...

This comment isn't directed at you as someone at your level is fully aware of stuff like this, but the above comment reminded me of one of Kevin Miller's responses to an off camera question during a break from the presentations about projectors at the 2014 HDTV shootout. He was mentioning how the biggest factor people don't consider when they transition to a projector is you now have your entire room's environment to consider. With a flat panel you are removing the vast majority of how the room plays with the signal as the panel is the source of the signal, but with projectors you've now got 10+' usually where the light is affected between the source and the screen.

Perhaps that isn't a light bulb moment for many people here, but I hadn't considered it up to that point and it was enlightening.

I was looking hard at an RS400 but ultimately decided it was a bad move and went with the OLED.

I thought I could get away with it. It didn't bother me the first few months. But in the day time it became a magazine cover more than anything else. I had to close all the windows and blinds to even make it quasi-useful, and those big ass windows are the reason I live here to begin with. So now I'm UHD!

Watched Straight out of Compton tonight. Truly amazed in night shots with people standing against a dark sky that you cant tell were the sky meets the letterbox and where the letterbox ends, just amazing. Another scene where they were walking into a club with neon at night was pretty crazy too. Super bright canopy against a inky black sky which then faded into the letterbox with no blooming obviously. To be honest, just watching the credits go up the screen in a black room blows my mind. I guess this is what 3.8 million dimming zones look like.

There are some near black issues that take a certain combo of factors to show, but I fixed most of it properly adjusting brightness down one click. I spoke to chad and he knows about it and counteracts it in his cal with a combo of contrast, brightness, and low end RGB adjustment of the grayscale.

The contrast ratio of this thing easily bests my VT50. Kinda hard to beat 3.8 million zones that can go zero black when they need too, and get very bright when they need to and not affect the one next to them...

Yes I agree, I only have the 9300 but it looks great when you watch movies like gravity or aliens. I had a 8500 plasma which was a great TV but this oled looks better to me with no buzzing lol.

OLED is an evolution from the best plasma IMO. Its like LED LCD and Plasma had a baby.

The LG's with the proper deblur and dejudder settings have better motion than my VT50 and my 2015 XBR. Then you have whites that are much better than plasma, and contrast ratio that is obviously better. I'm sold.

And dont get me wrong it's not "perfect", but no flat panel is. However, its the best thing I have ever seen.

Found this of interest since I wasn't sure on OLED design.

I get the glass and the filter (which works well BTW), and the white oled layer. Is the encap glass too? Also interesting the color layer is TFT like an LCD.

Thanks!! I appreciate the remark. It's your stereotypical new-construction Miami condo. Perfect place to spend your childless & petless 20s in, I've lived here since I was 24...29 now.

I should really update these images in my gallery to reflect the TV I own and the removal of the projector...

the answer is:

Yes. In a Heart Beat!

Reason: They were paying premium price for Plasma, they'll still pay premium for OLED. And get back their "infinite black" back with 4K.
