Default Reciever Help. sc-07 or tx-nr906

Trying to decide which to purchase. I am looking at the Pioneer Elite SC-07 or the Onkyo TX-NR906. Both seem to be pretty good and both about the same price. I have also seen the new Yamaha RX-Z7. I can get the RX-Z11 for about $2800 from a local authorized dealer. Any help would be appreciated. I have heard the SC-05 and the Yamaha but not the Onkyo.

What kind of speakers are you using?

I am using Def Tech BP7002's, CLR 2300, BPZ/A (2), and UIW 94/A (2) for 7.1. Pioneer Elite BDP-05 BR player.

Hmm well you have very nice stuff, so you can't go wrong with either. But the Onkyo 906 is one hell of a unit for the price and all the features it has. I prefer Onkyo though, they just have a nice warm feeling to them, and are definitely geared towards multichannel movie watching. I'd go with the Onkyo 906, but thats just me haha. I even returned a Yamaha RX-V1800 and decided to stay with the Onkyo. I just felt like it was a more solid unit (just my opinion though)

I agree the 906 is one hell of a reciver, you may even be able to find a deal on a 905, not sure what the 906 has being newer that the 905 may not but they are both so new and both power houses. I have an 805 and I love it and I know the 905/906 have the HQV chip set for video in them, I will be green with envy if you get that 906. Onkyo just a great reciver at a great price, very solid build.

How difficult is the set up on the Onkyo. The set up on the Denon was pretty easy to me. It was almost like plug and play. Also, please do not shoot the messanger and I realize there has benn many comments/threads about the heat issue with the Onkyo. I realize the amp section in the Onkyo is pretty powerful for a reciever and with the HQV Reon was just curious.

The heat thing is not an issue unless you put something directly on top of its vents Yes my Onkyo runs hot but Onkyo themselves have said that they are supposed to run hot. They have a huge beefy power supply in them so you don't have to worry about it crapping out too.

As far as setup goes its extremely easy, just plug in your devices and speakers and start the Audyssey calibration. And thats it! You cant go wrong with this unit.

I've found Yamaha units to be quite complex and at times confusing to setup. Onkyo's auto calibration is normally accurate and simple for me.

Just got 906 today and got it hooked up. All I can say is awesome unit. But, don't be fooled it does get quite warm if not "hot" Set up is just about as easy as I have ever encountered. Sound quality is 1st rate. It has more bottom end than AVR-4308 but I do think the 4308ci may have a better overall audio. 906 better video. For the money I do believe I would choose the 906 if you have plenty of space for this thing to breath. I do have it in a cabinet but it is fan cooled.

Onkyo Tx-nr906
Pioneer BDP-05fd
Def Tech BP7002's, CLR 2500, UIW BPZ/A (2), UIW 94/A (2)
Monster 5100 Mk2
Richard Grays s600 Power Conditioner
Samsung 5084 1080p

Damn dude - a new RX-Z11 for $2800 would have been the shiznit!!!
PCM1792 DAC's, DSD>Analog conversion, 11.2 array, really fantastic piece of equipment well worth its $5,000 price tag.

It's equivalent would have been the 5308CI and Onkyo don't make a receiver at that level currently.
