I thought that was an effective line arrow. Shows Morpheus doesn't need justification from anyone else for him to believe what he believes; and, it stopped Lock right in his tracks. My .02.

My least favorite EVER was in the 2nd Matrix when he started fighting that group of bad guys and said "Hmmm. Upgrades"

Ok Neo. I was willing to put aside the fact that the last 2 movies COMPLETELY didn't fit the premise of the first movie.

But then you feebly try to "explain" why you can no longer manipulate the matrix by saying "hmmm. Upgrades"

Pure garbage. I was willing to let it slide that they couldn't have very good sequels with the way the 1st movie ended, but don't assume viewers are a bunch of morons that will think "Oooooohhhh, upgrades, now I get it!"

Give me a freakin break.

That dialogue took place at the very begining of the movie and had nothing to do with Neo controling the matrix the system was trying counter Neo by makeing improvements to the agents and what is it called when a computer is improved- Upgrades

Most of the Matrix movies are rife with bad dialog and a more than a little bad acting. For all that, they are fun to watch and I'm looking forward to #1 on BD.

Same with any of the Star Wars films (although IV and V are my favorites and IMHO the best of the lot).

For the few comments against LoTR, just be glad they left out Tom Bombadill. If you don't know who that is, you can't complain about the movies at all.

Ok. I will give you that.
I had no problem with what was said, I just didn't like the way it was said. Using 3 different forms of the word "believe" in 2 sentences left me wanting to send the writers a Thesaurus so they could look up synonyms.

It should be impossible to "upgrade" when Neo CONTROLS the Matrix. Sorry man, it don't jive.

If Neo can manipulate the Matrix, making it do what he wants, how in the world can dudes cut him? With just a thought he should be able to do ANYTHING he wants to the Matrix.

He can stop bullets, but he can't stop some dude from punching him? I'll even give you the "virus" that Agent Smith was. It was seperate from the Matrix, completely uncontrollable by the Matrix. But to get smacked around by a program in the Matrix (bad guys) is unexplainable knowing what we know about Neo's "relationship" to the Matrix.

Woody, you miss the whole concept of "The Matrix". It's not just one program... it's millions. As Morpheous says "Some rules can be bent and others can be broken." The Agents are a seperate program from the Matrix. The bullets flying through the air are controled by physics not the Agents. So even Neo has limits to what he can do.

The agents are part of the Matrix (they just werent effected by some of the rules), how do you suppose he did what he did to the agent at the end of the first movie?

Sorry, it is way too easy to poke holes in any defense of the Matrix trilogy after the first movie.

The agents operate on the same basic rules as real world humans to be realistic (so they don't make themselves too noticeable within the matrix). As Morpheus says: some rules can be bent. Only those that have "freed their mind" learn they can operate outside of earthly rules. That's what the whole "there IS no spoon" bit is about. Once you realize none of it's real, you can manipulate it with your mind.

Neo dives into the agent because he realizes the agent is only a perceptual representation of data. Up to that point, Smith uses "physical" contact to attack. After that point - in the other movies - he too uses the 'infection' method, not to destroy but to corrupt the data and imprint his own code, thereby copying himself.

Up to the end scene in the first flic, smith is just a program running to serve the needs of the matrix - and he must work withig the confines of what he is allowed to due based on his programming. But he learns from neo, and he is changed in the process, and begins to also start bending the rules.

Agent Smith? Before the upgrades?

Well, there is a difference between not understanding and not wanting to understand. As much as you can poke holes, there can be solid explanations. Neo saying, "Hmm, upgrades" sums up not being able to do to agents in the second movie what he did to Agent Smith in the first. Also, take into consideration the link between Smith and Neo (negative/positive) could be why Neo was able to to what he did to Smith. Just a guess, but either one works for me.

Understood, but the "normal agents" are still part of the Matrix.

He can do what he wants to them in the first movie because he can manipulate the matrix to do whatever he wants. (the chosen one) All of the sudden in the other movies he loses that ability.

He "should" have been able to do that to any agent. The agents are part of the matrix and he can do what he wants with it, period.

All of the sudden he completely loses that ability in the 2nd movie. *shrug*

Not so sure he "lost" that ability... if you're talking about the 'jump into his stomach and make him explode Mortal Kombat style' move - I would offer that he doesn't find that necessary to do that.

Over the unseen 6 months, he becomes better able to use his abilities, and if you notice the fighting in reload or revolutions (with the Upgrades or Smith) it's relatively effortless. There's no more scared bunny or act of desperation moves (and certainly less effort, grunting and face-making - courtesy of 'there is no spoon'/'do you think that's air you're breathing' thinking) . During the Burly Brawl, he starts taking on dozens of Smiths, but it truly becomes overwhelming, and his best move is to 'Flee' Final Fantasy style.

So does he need the jump gut move in 2/3. I'd say no. He's able to take on agents with their rules and beat them at their own game. Neo just got better at 'physically' fighting Agents. Just like I don't need to count on my fingers anymore once I was able to do it in my head effectively. We all grow and evolve... except those people on the Kansas School Board.

Funny, I saw him fight only one agent in the first Matrix. You assume that they way Neo destroyed Smith also applies to the other agents.

Upgrades for the second batch of agents works as does doctorsteve's explanation.

So he stops acouple hundred bullets with his hand, then decides to fight 6 dudes hand to hand, instead of simply destroying them, (gut style like you said) and leaves others to go and protect the "key dude"??

I guess he just wasnt in a hurry?

Sorry, I still don't buy it.

If anything, if he "evolved" he would not have gone "backwards" where it required hand to hand combat. He could have done something like altering the matrix to hold them all in place or something. (you know, like the bullets) *shrug*
