Yeah, It basically goes like this:
Wait for main menu Press 7 - See small Circle with line through it in top right Press 6 - See small Circle with line through it in top right Press 6 - See small Circle with line through it in top right Press 9 - See small Circle with line through it in top right Press Enter - Movie starts (because I had "start movie" highlighted... it just ignored my number pressing) Beyond that, is there a good alternative to do some calibration? something I can download that will give me patterns and instructions that's worth my time? Again, I probably won't pay the $300 for ISF, and I do have mixed signals (SD / HD / ED or Composite / Component / HDMI). |

The Ratatouille disc had a decent calibration tool.
This is what you will get best results with though. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-...1483666&sr=8-1 |

Thanks all for the help. I downloaded the AVCHD file and will attempt to use that one (I don't have a BR DVD burner available). I just hope that since my player seems to barf on the Sony calibration "easter egg" that it won't do so on the AVCHD disk.
Do I need fliters to set my color levels as well, or can I get a decent set of settings without the filters? |

You will however, need a blue filter to set your colors. Remember so you dont get confused to read the first post in that thread! That explains exactly how to use each pattern. All you need is just the basic patterns. White level which you would use the contrast control on your tv, black level uses the brightness control and then you have your color and tint {or hue} controls. Good luck! ![]() |

I have DVE on Blu-ray now.
But the explanation on colour and contrast adjustments is a little hard for me to understand. So could someone explain te me how to use them? |

Wel it think i understand how te use it now...But i have noticed a strange thing.
When i am in the xmb (for example) i can adjust the tint leven in the menu. But as soon as i start DVE i can't. It doesn't appear in the menu of my set. I have a Panny: Th-42py70 (1080p) Thanks ![]() |

But the average people do watch TV in the daytime too. So if your TV can have several settings, you may want to do daytime/nighttime calibrated settings. Just like what arush5268d said. If you truly and exclusively watch TVs in the dark, then you only need one setting. fuad |

I don't know who can calibrate your sharp. our Geek Squad ISF people don't have the codes for Sharps and they cannot calibrate them. i don't know if it's just our guys or all companies out there but apparently sharps are a ***** to calibrate because they won't give their service menu codes to anyone...that's just what I've been told though

It took some getting used to, but after watching some moviews on my freshly calibrated TV using DVE, I won't ever go back to torch mode again!
It's like watching movies at the cinema, they all have a sort of "film" look now. Very very nice ![]() Last edited by blukibuken; 11-22-2008 at 11:24 AM. |

When people use DVE, you can modify the red-cut, red-drive, etc to get the colors correct using the enclosed DVE filters, right?

OK, so i used the calibration tool on the Rambo Blu-ray and was able to set my colour, brightness and contrast easily enough. i read that post a few pages back from the 'insider' thread and have gathered from that that my 42" Philips doesn't give a 1:1 picture (it's only 1080i so i gathered it wouldn't).
my question though is; what am i supposed to do with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th screens on the calibrator (white screen with black patterns, black to white fade and black with white grid respectively)? i've read this whole thread and i can't see any instructions on how to use it. |
