Calibrate Your HDTV

I need to calibrate my TV and was looking around but can't seem to find my answers. I think I will try to save the money and do it myself. I have a few questions:

1) Does calibration need to occur for different sources (i.e. Broadcast 480i vs. broadcast HD, vs. DVD 480p vs. Blu Ray 1080p)

2) Should I get the video essentials DVD now or wait for the Blu Ray version at the end of the month?

3) If I use the Video Essentials DVD, should I put it in my Blu Ray player or in my DVD player

The questions are all kinda related.... Thanks for the help!
