It was released in the UK by Arrow and has been released by Universal in the UK, Australia, & Germany since 2014.

So is this strictly a Best Buy USA exclusive, or will it also be available at Best Buy in Canada?

They're all region-locked to my knowledge. The Arrow definitely is. Only an extremely small number of US buyers are region-free. In short: stooooooop.

I'm obsessed with this movie. I had a very thorough 'Burbs website in the late 90s. I tracked down as much material on and collectables from the movie as I could. The Arrow release sealed the deal on me buying a region-free player. That version is a goldmine - particularly the workprint. While I don't have high expectations for this new one, I'm glad it's finally getting a US release and will keep an eye on it for any unique features - as unlikely as that is.

I realize it was a long time ago, DVD was in a long-gone golden age, and Universal has a poor catalog title track record, but the original DVD included one of the alternate endings despite the disc specs not originally including it and the screenshot of the disc menu on the back likewise excluded it. Not counting on it, but that gives me a little hope.

Plus there is still some content that hasn't been released. There's a deleted scene with a mailman that was featured in a press photo. That scene appears to be from the workprint version of the scene where Rumsfield breaks into Walter's house. I had the chance to ask Dante about it once and I think he said the actor was a comedian. There are additional variations on the ending. And there's a clip of outtakes on YouTube. I read that Arrow approached Universal about it but was denied. Maybe the fact that Arrow asked for it highlighted the fact that it exists to Universal?

Watching this clip really makes me wish more outtakes would surface. It's fascinating to watch the this from a behind-the-scenes perspective and to see the dynamics between the actors.

Well, talking about this movie means I'm probably gonna have to watch it tonight.

I foresee a Shout Factory Collector's Edition in the future. May have to wait until SDCC to know if it's coming this year, though.

If there will be a CE from Shout!, I say it will come out next year. It's a way of sort of being fair to Universal to release theirs first.

But if it is a Best Buy exclusive then Shout/Scream would have to wait for that window to close. Who knows when that will happen... Shout already said a few days ago, they still don't have it.

I mean this is $10 normally for Best Buy, if it goes on sale then it can be anywhere from $5 to $8. Not a bad deal for a movie and it'll convince the studio to continue supporting catalog releases on Blu-ray.

Shout have been very blunt guys, Universal wouldn't license it because they wanted to release it themselves. I don't think there's any conspiracy theory here. Now, after a couple years of their release being on the market might Universal license it THEN? Sure, maybe, but who knows? If they do who knows if Shout would even be the ones to get it? Would make sense for Arrow to bid.

If you're dying for an SE of this movie with great video and have money to burn I would go region-free and get the Arrow version. It will pay off with many other movies too. If the expense of that turns you off, hopefully this edition will hold you over.

It definitely won't happen this year. Past history says Universal wants at least a year or so without competition. Maybe next year.

To the best of my knowledge The People Under the Stairs saw the quickest Collectors edition from a prior Universal release and that was right around the 11 month mark, so you are most definitely correct in stating that IF Scream Factory were to release this in a collectors edition it's unlikely to show up before April 2017.

Can't believe people will sit out a catalog title that will be selling for $10 (if that) for the possibility of an SE a year or more down the line. If you want a loaded SE, get the Arrow edition. If you just want the movie, buy the Universal release.

Oh man I want this on Bluray with the featurette, the LL Kool J music video, trailer and maybe a Badham commentary.... oh and speaking of Badham.... We need Bird on a WIre on Bluray as well!!!! That 1998 non-anamorphic BluRay reeks badly of EE, heavy grain and lack of detail......

Not exactly off topic since Richard Benjamin directed The Money Pit and starred in St14th

If my local Best Buy has it in stock, I will probably pick it up. I saw it on VHS when I was a kid but, I don't remember any details.
