I would strongly recommend the Yammy, especially if your system also doubles as a 2-channel rig for music. To use a popular line from our movie reviewers.."It comes with my highest recommendation!".

Sorry to hear about the bad luck on the Marantz, however if you want to go Yamaha - I would definately recommend them (I would also recommend Pioneer Elite also). You may even want to try you hand at seperates from Emotiva, considering the system you have

Hmm. In what scientists are calling, "pretty gay," accessories4less.com declined my return request because it was past the 30day return period, which starts from day of purchase, not day of exchange. Now I REALLY don't know what to do.

Pioneer,Denon and Yamaha.All great brands.
I personally would narrow it down to Denon or Yamaha. Those two are my favorite company's for recievers.They both have there own sound and both are equally amazing

For that price range, I would strongly encourage you to check out two deals in the market right now - The Yamaha HTR-1800 and the Denon AVR-3808CI. The Yamaha retails for $1,300, but you can find it for around $770 online shipped. The Denon retails for $1,600, but there's a deal for $1,089 shipped at PowersellerNYC. The only thing gayer is your repeated usage of the word "gay" to describe something negative. Not cool. Lot's of gay people are also tech junkies, in fact; statistically disproportionately so. Why would you want to offend your fellow tech junkies?

The AVR 3808 would be a very sweet deal and supposedly a firmware update will be available (for a cost $150) to add the new audissey features.

You will hear many conflicting recommendations. My least favorite is the Yamaha, I would easily opt for the Denon or Pioneer in my opinion. Think about Integra/Onkyo as well though.

I find them to be very bland sounding. I have had the luxury to work in a few different audio stores and have listened to all of the brands of receivers that have been listed. It may be just a personal opinion, but when listening to the same speaker on Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo and Pioneer, I found the Pioneer to have the most punch, which can be overwhelming sometimes if you are listening to a bright speaker or music that is very bright. The Denon and Onkyo tended to have the most neutral sound which was always pleasing on my ear, but the Onkyo to not have as much reserve power for the demanding sequences like the Denon. I preferred the neutral sound that Denon had because it wasnt as fatiguing on my ear over time. The yamaha, although consistent with power, had the most flat/bland sound out of them for me. Their DSP modes are stupid because all they do is affect the purity of the sound and yamaha uses more of them than anyone else. Also their user interface and ease of setup is the hardest compared to all of them.
