Default Least Expensive Profile 2.0 Option?

What's the least expensive Profile 2 player out right now?

I have a PS3, but I just don't have time for it anymore. Is it worth it to just go ahead and keep it as a Profile 2 BR player anyway, would it be too much of a loss to sell it and buy a new player (or find someone willing to trade)?

I'm not sure there is a profile 2.0 player apart from the PS3.

Clearly the cheapest option is to keep the PS3 anyway. You don't have to use most of it's awesome features...

(Upconverting DVDs, Upconverting CD, Playing SACDs, Playing Games, Linking to media servers, Internet access, Life with Playstation news and weather from all over the planet, Ability to store and play most types of music and video files, Nice photo slideshow options (with music) which can usually play right from most cameras either using the memory card or the USB connection, and likely lots of other cool stuff I just can't remember right now.)

...just use the Blu Ray player part.

-Brian

p.s. I looked it up and there is the Panasonic BD50 for ~$560 and seems some new 2.0 players are coming soon like the Sony S550. You may be able to find one of those for ~$350 according to some. Not sure what you could get for the PS3.

SOny S350 or Samsung BDP1500 (witch there are enougth problems with P2.0 as the machine is Uber Slow), both with the latest FW version.

You'll have to add at least 9.99$ for a 2gb USB Key (kingston one works)

I concur. The Sony BDP-S350 is probably the cheapest on the market.

What does that mean? If you don't have time to play games, just use it as a BD player. It's not like your PS3 is amortized faster if you only use it as a BD player.

In this economy, I would suggest save your money just in case you need it tomorrow. But if you're filthy rich, go ahead and splurge.

The Sammy 1500 is on Amazon for $221 and a copy of the new Matrix collection is free.

Edit: it is currently $213

I would go with the Samsung. It should be BD Live Ready with the new firmware. Sony is not really renowned for making great BD Players. At work I have had a lot of experience with both brands. The Samsung Players are simply better. (and cheaper)

Are you serious? With Samsungs support, or lack there of, I would get a Sony S350 anyday over the Samsung.

Are you saying the S350 or the 1500 is uber slow or both with 2.0?

I know I've mentioned it before but it is worth noting in case the OP is unaware of it. If you go to sonystyle.com and apply online for their Visa card, then pay for the purchase with the card number they issue you in about 30 seconds (if approved), you get a credit of $150 back. That brings the Sony S350 down to $149 and the S550 down to $249. Can't beat those prices. (They say it takes about 8 weeks to get the credit back but they applied it to my account within days.)
