Default Blu-Ray on the Mac

Hey Guys,

I have a Mac, and through my research there doesn't appear to be a way to watch commercial movies on my mac that are blu-ray (with a blu-ray drive). Since authoring isn't really what I'm looking to do, this really makes me not want a blu-ray drive.

Does anybody know of a way I'd be able to view a commercial movie on blu-ray on my mac?

from what i understand even on a pc the drives that are available today are a huge pain if you don't plan on waiting over two months after a new release comes out to watch it, otherwise problem shooting why your new movie doesn't work can be quite a headache according to the testimonials i have read here and elsewhere, if you got a tv i advise a standalone/ps3.

and NOPE, we mac users are still left out in the cold, no blu drives available yet, and im guessing no time soon, mass adoption of the format will come first.

i asked the apple rep at best buy why they weren't putting blu-ray drives in macs, and he said because it'd be too much money to put them in. he said that apple believes that on the screen size of a macbook, you probably couldn't tell the difference between a blu-ray and an upconverted dvd, so it's not worth the cost of production (yet, at least).

(don't get mad, this is just what he said!)

LOL i don't put much stock behind anything a best buy employee says, magnolia or otherwise lol. i have a 17" macbook, but their desktops go bigger don't they? although i do agree, if i had money to blow why not, but is it neccesary probably not, on my macbook dvd does look pretty crispy, far better then on my 46" tv. my guess is with laptops they are going smaller and in the case of the air, no optical at all. plus as a mac user i have become accustomed to everything working top notch and as it should which does not seem to be the case in most instances of what pc blu drive users experience. apple and wisely i might add is probably awaiting mass adoption, as well as more kinks to be worked out before they offer models with blu drives. but anyones guess is as good as mine

true, true. however, he's an apple rep, not a best buy employee (i.e., not employed by best buy, he is only there 2 times a week, and usually to bring product and hang out at the apple display and answer questions).
