At this point I won't be surprised if we never get any UHD released tv shows since it really seems like the big companies want to kill off the physical format. I noticed Fox isn't releasing many of their shows on Blu-Ray this season and some are not even getting a DVD release. Sucks.

Westworld will be the first TV show to be released on 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray (release on 09.11.17).

The 1080 master for the Blu-ray had 720p uprezzed effects. 720p all the way to 2160p would look like arse. Just like Firefly. The SFX were rendered at 480! |

I would kill for The West Wing. Or The Wire.

I'm a sitcom junkie. I'd get Seinfeld, Friends, The Dick Van Dyke Show. All of them would be good in native 4k with HDR.

Black sails is probably the best looking tv series ever, even streaming it in 1080p on netflix looks sharper and more colorful than half my 4k collection on disc. and i am a disc pusher!

I disagree, Freaky. They did the VFX at 720p often for aesthetic reasons, e.g. the ships looked too sharp and detailed when contrasted with the super-grainy live action shots, this was according to Mojo (or was it Doug Drexler? Can't remember). And some of the other VFX looked kinda ropey all along, especially the CG Cylons. An upscale of BSG would preserve both of those aspects of the VFX, it is what it is.

I'm pretty interested in Netflix originals like Narcos and Daredevil (as well as Okja and Sword of Destiny). The whole Defenders line up is logical if any one of them is being produced.
It should be a pretty easy business decision to reconcile producing a semi-boutique premium product that won't distract 99% of their customers and subs, or stop even a single person from staying subscribed for their regular content consumption... but should add a little prestige, fan fare, and extra revenue possibilities. Very little strategic overlap and conflicts if any at all. So yeah... to reiterate: Most Wanted: Narcos Daredevil Also Want: Jessica Jones Iron Fist Luke Cage Defenders (once it's applicable) Might as well: Okja Sword of Destiny I'd buy the crap out of True Detective, Ash Vs Evil Dead and Preacher on 4K UHD, but I don't know what the networks have available for those... I'm hopeful, though. |

American Gods would be one ready to go in UHD - the UK regular blu has already been announced/is coming later this month, but it's streaming in 4K on Amazon UK. Perhaps when Lionsgate (?) release it (in the run up to S2?) there will be a UHD option. Especially if Westworld does well come November...
