what in the world is going on here?
Warner said bd-50, new tranfer, tons of extras, but.... another website has received a copy of the "ultimate tin" and it is the SAME old bd-25 crap version!!! Was this some horrible mistake? where is the answer regarding this? No-one seems to be talking about this issue or have any answers as to if this is really true that there is NO new version as promised. Could Warner seriously get away with just putting some cookie cutters and the old crap bd in the new tin? thoughts? |

specs were posted on high def digest regarding the bd-50 I believe and all the extras that were planned--good god.
something very strange seems to be going on. well HDD definitely outlined this "ultimate version" you can go over there and read the article concerning this release coming out. I'm just trying to figure out how this info got so confused. Last edited by Arkadin; 10-29-2008 at 01:08 PM. |

right.
that's the review I was talking about. but look at article dated July 14th on high def digest about what was SUPPOSED to be coming out. that's what I'm talking about. It states "bd 50" plus tons of extras all outlined. looks at the comments in the "review" thread you just posted everyone is asking what happened to this release. where is the promised bd-50, new encode, etc. etc. there is no way HDD would have ever published that article on july 14th without direct info from Warner imo. botton line-Warner seems to have changed their mind for now about giving us a true "ultimate edition" I mean why the hell would they call this the "ultimate edition"? they were clearly planning what HDD reported imo. so what about all the extras that were promised? is this the final "ultimate edition" gimme a break. ![]() from what you just posted "This almost certainly confirms that Warner has remastered the film" uhhhh apparently not. |

It is the same release as year before last and the BD only comes in a tin can with a string of leg lamp lights. Only the DVD version is getting the extra disc with bonus features, the cookie cutters, recipe book and apron. looks like this might be a DVD purchase for me.

HDD seems to be the only place that reported the incorrect information, so I think the blame possibly falls on them and not Warner in this case. That being said, it's pretty clear that internal communication at Warner is terrible, so it's possible they got their info from someone at Warner who didn't know what they were talking about.

A new encode isn't going to do anything for this movie. The current encode hits well into the mid 20's quite often and doesn't suffer from blocking (none noticeable) or any other nasty issues. It's just not a pretty film and never will be.
It looks about as good as it will ever... so I'm not sure what the benefit of a new encode on a BD-50 would be -- you'd never be able to tell the difference. I'm also not sure where people got so confused... It was known long ago that it would just be the BD-25 with some new swag. |

sorry I completely disagree.
a scanning of the original negative at 4k would result in MUCH better pq plain and simple. end of story. Now is that a major process that costs lost of $$? absolutely. but to say that some poor looking sub-par release such as this cannot be improved is simply not accurate imo. It is amazing that a few people still don't seem to get that the dvd and the Blu-Ray are BOTH being billed as the "Ultimate edition" when clearly the bd is NOWHERE close. forgiving Warner for leaving off the extras for the bd ultimate version is simply wrong imo. I have supported many of Warner's efforts, but NOBODY should put up with this. If it is the same then DON'T call it an "Ultimate edition". not too complicated imo. ![]() it was also previously reported that the new "single" disc version would have different artwork to distinguish it from the "old" version. looks like all of this has been thrown out the window.
