I used to, and sometimes still, buy multiple retailer exclusives for exclusive special features but as time goes on I realized I've never listened to commentary, don't really care about deleted scenes and I've never watched bonus content twice. As it is now, I watch all bonus content at 1.5x.
Now that 4K is out, the regular Blu-ray is essentially a 'special features' disc to me. I'm wondering if I should keep the regular Blu-ray anymore or sell it to reduce the cost of purchase. Thoughts? Last edited by Dreamliner330; 10-07-2016 at 12:57 AM. |

I can't really vote because it totally depends on the type of special feature we're talking about which option I would check.
- I couldn't care less about a trailer, don't even think they should qualify - outtakes I love and watch multiple times - commentary tracks sometimes I watch, sometimes I don't -making of's, especially FX heavy movies I never watch anymore, I feel like it ruins my watching experience in the future, I find myself thinking about how they said they did it, instead of enjoying it. I wish I could go back and unwatch some I have seen, leave the wizard behind the curtain. - I do like turtles ![]() |

Occasionally yes, but I generally don't obsess over them. Like if a commentary or feature is missing from a DVD, I probably won't notice or care. I usually save the features for my 2nd viewing or later. Normally I don't go much beyond deleted scenes and trailer on my first watch of a blu-ray. 2nd watch is when I *might* also check out some features. I almost never listen to commentaries.

Well, who doesn't like turtles?
I don't make the time to watch many extras lately, but I've seen 'em for various movies. Star Wars. The Matrix. 2009's Star Trek. Transformers. Mad Max. Prometheus. Most recently, The Wailing (all 10 minutes of bonus material) and The Revenant. There's a lot of good, educational material in a lot of these movies, but some can be rather dry. I usually only watch these things once, but if there are really epic deleted scenes (like there are in The Terminator), I will probably watch those again and again. Certain novelty bonuses (like comedy sketches, music videos, storyboards, loops, VFX stuff, gag reels, easter eggs, short films) may warrant rewatches too. Still, most are one-and-done for me. I used to be hardcore into extras, and watch all of them usually, but now I just watch some of them or don't even bother sometimes. I still like knowing that they're there, though. It can enhance the overall experience when you have additional insights and glimpses at its creation. I like retrospectives and featurettes about the development of the idea. Commentaries can be really fun too.

Not nearly as much as I used to. Unless it's an expensive Scream Factory / Twilight Time / Criterion release, I usually only pick at the extras these days. There are too many MOVIES and TV shows to watch to waste time on back-slapping making-of featurettes.

I really enjoy bonus features. Unfortunately my wife does not so I tend to wait to watch them until she is out of the house. I usually then find I have such a abundance of bonus features to watch in a relatively short time and have to face the reality that I will likely never find the time to enjoy them except on movies I really feel I must see them on.
I do like turtles though and here one I saw in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. ![]() |

I usually always watch the bonus features on every release I own at least once. The only ones I will skip are commentaries, extensive photo galleries, storyboard sequences, and things that require watching the movie with it like Ucontrol.

Deleted scenes are really all I ever watch now, in regards to special features.
The last commentary I listened to was on a new release DVD... Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest That writer's commentary was really good. If more were done like that, going into the story, the ideas behind it, the history of that world, what was changed and why, then I'd listen to more. |

I love the bonus material, when a title is released, i will always go with the one that comes with the most bonus content. Disc based content, not the digital garbage. The documentary material on titles such as LOTR EE or Harry Potter are what its all about. To me extras are one third of what makes blu-ray so awesome. the other two thirds being picture quality and surround sound options.

As long as it doesn't feel like you're participating in an academic course, I love bonus features.
And as for the guy who says trailers don't really count, I hate that way of thinking. To me, trailers and TV spots included on video releases are a great way to archive how the film was promoted. See what either hooked audiences or kept them away from seeing it. |

It really depends on a couple of things - the movie and the quality of the extras. Will I rewatch the extras? Depends on how long ago I spun up the disc. Some of the Godzilla extras I've been watching again since it's been 3 or 4 years since I sampled them.

I will normally watch every extra that's going and for my favourite movies that means multiple times, just like the movie.
Some people call it watching sausages get made but I have never had my enjoyment of a film diminished by going into how it was put together. |
