Default VGN-AR825E laptop to NS-LCD32 720p hdtv

Hello everyone,

After lurking for a day or two and reading around the forums, I decided to sign up and see if I could get some help since using the search feature didn't prove completely useful.

I own a Sony VAIO (specs are listed in my signature), and I was interested in playing blu-ray movies on my Insignia NS-LCD32 720p hdtv from my laptop. I used the HDMI port and set up my display where everything would be displaying on the tv and not the laptop. The picture is fine and I can hear sound in the blu-ray menu. However, when I select play and the movie starts, I no longer hear sound.

I did what others have suggested in other threads and disabled my Speakers/Headphone sound and made the HDMI sound default, yet it still doesn't seem to fix the problem.

The DVD playback I am using is InterVideo WinDVD 8.0 DXVA B09.254, which came with my laptop. From what I've read, this is some pretty shoddy software.

What else can I try to get the sound working? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Using just the TV speakers?
If yes, you will have to select 2 channel(stereo) and not 5.1.
With 5.1, lots of the sound is on the rear channels... you won't hear much, if anything, from the TV speakers as they will likely be assigned as the front channels if at all.

Be sure WinDVD is set to Stereo too!

I have a surround sound system set up to my TV. It's an old setup, and the way it works is I have R/W cables going from the receiver to the TV, and to hear the sound coming from the TV I switch to "TV" on the receiver.
