the original was done in 16 bit uncompressed pcm audio and the newer version has Dolby TrueHD in 24 bit audio. i dont know about the video quality though if its better on the newer version.

I think the TrueHD version has been mixed a little higher. The dialogue sounds better to me on the new version. I thought there were parts in the PCM version where the talking sounded like mumbling and hard to understand.

According to most revies online and in magazines, they have used the same master for both releases. The pic quality never needed to be improved much anyway as most people regard it as a near flawless presentation. Not sure about the audio but i wouldnt think there would be a night and day diference between the 2.

Today, I watched the first release. Sounded pretty good to me. It would be interesting to hear the 2nd to compare.

Maybe a dumb question but does the spine of the new release match the other Bond titles just released?

Thanks DoYouBlu. Neither of them match the other Bond releases. My anal geek mode for how it looks on my shelf kicked in.

no problem, i'm the same way (the bourne movies on dvd bothered me alot because 1 and 2 were similar spine but 3 looked like some 10 year old just printed it off a crappy printer...big standard white lettering against a blue background).

anyways i deleted my prior post with the spines because i realized i wasn't answering the question you were asking. thought you had asked how do the original and new casino royale bluray spines compare.

just the distribution rights, Sony used to but there was a disagreement on Sony's agenda. Ironically Sony still is a majority shareholder of MGM
Quote:
On May 31, MGM announced that it would transfer home video output (MGM Home Entertainment) from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (excepting those MGM or UA and Columbia or TriStar co-productions, such as the 2006 EON Productions verison of Casino Royale, where Columbia is a majority partner).[5][6]
MGM also announced plans to restructure its worldwide television distribution operation.[7] In addition MGM signed a deal with New Line Television and Touchstone Pictures in which MGM would handle New Line's U.S. film and series television syndication packages. MGM will also serve as New Line's barter sales rep in the television arena for the next two years.[8]
On November 2, producer/actor Tom Cruise and his production partner, Paula Wagner, signed an agreement with MGM to run United Artists. Wagner will serve as United Artists' chief executive. Cruise will produce and star in films for UA and MGM will distribute the movies.
