Default Best video and audio quality?

If I were to go out today and purchase the one Blu-ray movie that would totally blow my eyes and ears out, quality-wise, which one would it be?
In other words, which current Blu-ray movie has the best video and audio quality?

Default Rv

I just finished the review for RV and I think it is the title that BD fans have been waiting for. The presentation is stellar. Surprisingly the extras are all in high definition and look great too. By far Sony's best effort to date.

The trailer for Black Hawk Down also looks promising.

Of the collection.... (9 disks now)

Best to worst PQ
Good Night and Good Luck(But it's in B&W. )
Training Day
Underworld Evo
Last Waltz
Terminator

Best sound, any of the Sony ones with uncompressed PCM. Underworld Evo is a good example.

RV? Yeush! Of all movies...

After comparing both HD and BD releases of Training Day, I'm not convinced that there is anything wrong with the Samsung's ability to resolve 1080i, outside of Faroudja's chroma filtering. Viewing the hidden resolution chart on Sony titles, the pattern was rock solid at 1080i, letting our Sony FP do inverse telecine to recreate the progressive (1080p) framing. Outputting 720p, however, showed significant roll off, which I'm guessing is where the genesis chip problem reported by one puplication may come into play. A complete list of our review components can be found at the bottom of each review on the Spot. For my HD DVD and BD reviews, audio and video are both passed via HDMI, which I believe is optimal for this player, despite what has been reported elsewhere in regard to the players video output.

IMO the best sound and pic. from blu ray was either Stealth (first pick) or Training Day.

Stealth
Training Day
Underworld:Evolution
Ultraviolet
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Good Night, Good Luck
House of Flying Daggers

Those are my picks, in that order. Stealth gives great sound and picture, Training Day mainly has the picture going for it. Underworld had great picture and sound. Ultraviolet sounds really great and showcases great dynamic rangeand separation. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and GN, GL have really good picture quality. Use HOFD for a sound demo only the sound is amazing... Just turn the display off when you get to the "bean" and "bamboo" scenes.

word on the avs streets is, the Dolby digital track on Training day is at a high 640kbps the same as the DD+ track from the HDDVD. From what I heard it was an upgrade over the standard DVD.

Training Day sounded good no doubt, but I probably wouldn't throw it in to demo a surround system or to showcase the sound capabilities of Blu-ray.

Yes, Warner confirmed for me that their DD tracks are 640 kbps about a week ago.

BD's implementation of DD+ is different than HD's. Essentially, DD 5.1 on BD is the same as 5.1 DD+ on HD as I understand it according to Dolby.

is this just because of the bitrate numbers between the two? not that i'm going to claim to no anything, but intuition would tell me that dd+ would be greater than, not equal.

As far as The Last Waltz goes, how is that movie? I thought about picking it up as it is one of the 4 titles I don't have. What are some thoughts on the PQ and sound?

Go to Click Me! and read the definition of DD+. This will help shed some light on the differences between DD+ and DD(AC3).

DD+ is more efficient in how it packets the different channels. The codec actually supports more than 8 channels of sound, for future viability. But, for 5.1, BD's implementation of 640kbps sound is actually less space consuming for the same basic sound fidelity, as DD doesn't support more than 6 channels. DD+ won't be used on BD for 5.1 sound. On BD DD+ is reserved for 7.1.

Here's a mini review of Last Waltz for ya.

Last Waltz is pretty damn good. It's a pretty rare thing, that's a concert movie from the 70s all shot on 35mm film stock, by as good a director as you can get, with the dolby guys helping on the sound.

If you're a music freak I'd say this movie is a reason to get Blu Ray. Last Waltz is a record of an end of an era in music. Right before Punk and Disco took over. It's a who's who of mid 70s american folk rock.

PQ/Sound wise, I don't think you'll ever get a record of a 70s concert as good as this again.

I'm looking forward to reviewing The Last Waltz later this week. Never seen the film, but I love the period of music.
