Default Newbie BluRay Question...

I have an older HD 1080i Tv with no DVI or Hdmi inputs. Can I use a bluray player with a Hdmi to component cable to get a 1080I picture? Or is there a better way to do this,if even possible?

Thanks,
Bobby

the PS3 is sold with a composite cable (yellow red white), you can replace it by a component cable (blue green red + white red for sound) that should fit your TV and give good results (contrary to HDMI cable that are good even if bought for 5$ better get a higher priced one)

I plan on buying a stand alone BluRay for my parents for Xmas....Will it play in 1080i? Or down scale?

I wouldn't mind having a ps3 for myself!! I'm in the same situation with my Tv.

I have my PS3 hooked to my old 1080i via component and it looks pretty good, grant it I do want to upgrade eventually. But yeah you can do it and it looks good.

You should be fine with composite, I'm pretty sure there are other members not running HDMI. You will not get 1080p (only get that with HDMI), but I would think that they should transfer an image at 1080i no problem. Some of the more technically-minded members here will be able to clarify. Stay tuned, they'll come out and post eventually...
