Help locating Movies with Chinese Mandarin subtitles - Blu-ray Forum

Can anyone tell me any good movies with Chinese Mandarin subtitles? I know The Fifth Element has Chinese Mandarin subtitles but that's about it. I tried to google this but I am having no luck.

Anyway, if anyone knows of any movies with Mandarin subtitles please let me know! My mom doesn't speak English very well and sometimes I can't translate what people say word for word in films.

If anyone can direct me to helpful sites that could possibly search by subtitle languages or something would be great as well. And I should also add that they don't have to be Blu-Ray titles. Regular DVD is fine, too!

There is a thread on AVS Forum that attempts to tracks this. Most Blu-ray titles that specify generic "Chinese" subtitles on the packaging seem to use the traditional character set, although Sony occasionally provides simplified characters. Fox most frequently lists their subs as Cantonese but it seems that the usage of Cantonese slang and expressions may be minimal on most Fox titles. I don't read (or speak) Chinese, however, so can't say for sure.

Maybe you can import Hongkong released titles, which are more likely to carry Chinese subs.

There are plenty of titles that have mandarin subtitles. Here are some from the top of my head:

1. Batman Begins
2. Troy Director's cut
3. Blade Runner
4. Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind
5. Fifth Element
6. Spider-Man Trilogy
7. Black Hawk Down
8. Die Hard Collection

I know how you feel cause I was trying to get my parents into blu-rays ^^

Just checked and Shawshank Redemption will have Chinese subtitles. Absolutely wonderful movie that I highly recommend to your mom

Awesome. Thanks for all the help. And for the record, I watched Shawshank on DVD with my mom and translated everything for her. She loves it. And when I get it with subtitles, it'll be even better. I'm sure I mangled some things they said in there.

The lists I've come across at the avs link and the ones bluhorizon (other thread) and the ones darren1228 mentioned to have traditional mandarin all seem to be the same as the ones you can buy in Taiwan. Like Spiderman boxset, Full Metal Jacket, Troy, Fifth Element, Harry Potters, etc.

Is there a master pressing that companies in the states an other countries would use to manufacture the discs? If they are using the same master copy, maybe that is why their seems to be some connection.

If the disc is available in Taiwan I wll feel pretty safe buying it on amazon at a lower price and possible getting the mandarin subtitles.

One sight that lists some is www.deltamac.com.tw I don't know where to find the Warner Bros releases for Taiwan.

Does The Dark Knight region B have chinese subtitles? Cause the Batman Begins region B did.

Are you sure about the Die Hard Collection? Just watched Live Free or Die Hard! Subtitles are Cantonese. Says it on the back of box too. Amazon doesn't list it, just says English, Spanish, French. This site just says Chinese. Assumed if collection has Mandarin so would single disc.Took a chance

Also anyone know if Traditional (complex) Mandarin subtitles are on Sideways, Man on Fire, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Beetlejuice and Full Metal Jacket.

Thanks, but there are 2 types of Mandarin, simplified and complex(traditional) Usually on the case they say Chinese or Mandarin. The onscreen menu may say Traditional Chinese, but it may be written in Chinese.

I am always looking for American Blu-ray releases with Traditional Chinese Subtitles for my wife. Sometimes I just take a chance and my wife has to deal with it. She can read the simplified Mandariin, I believe.. not really sure, but not Cantonese.
