Default Need some help picking out a receiver to go with PS3/1080p tv

Hey fellow blu-ray heads, help out a brother in need.

I just picked up a Mitsubishi WD-73732 and a PS3. Can anyone recommend a receiver that will output 1080p with the PS3 hooked up via HDMI? I was looking at a Yamaha 6060, but I was told that it wouldn't pass 1080p at 24Hz and that I'd have to put my settings to 1080i.

I've got about $1000 to spend on a receiver and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd just hate to get stuck with a receiver that can't give me the most out of my tv and PS3.

Sorry to ask this here, I know this is a blu-ray players thread, but I've seen some pretty informed members on this board and I'm hoping for some of that knowledge passed this way.

The Onkyo SR605 and SR805 will both output at 1080p, not sure about the 24Hz. They also have HDMI v1.3, so they will decode DTSHD-MA.

TX-SR605 and Tx-SR805 pass through HDMI 1080p. The HDMI port is only for pass through on these models. Upconversion on the HDMI port is only available on the TX-SR875.

The 605 and 805 will upconvert 480i and 480p to 720p thru component video, but not HDMI which is only pass through unless you plop down around $1500 for SR875

For example, I have the HDTV Motorola/Comcast set top box running through my TX-SR805 receiver and onto to a Sony KDS-50A2000 1080p SXRD via HDMI. To view broadcast TV at 720p vs 480i I have to run component video to the SR805 instead of HDMI otherwise broadcast will be viewed as 480i.

The SR805 can pass through DTS HD Master, but to date there is not a single Blu-Ray DVD capable of providing this format at this point. The source to the SR805 must send DTS HD Master via bitstream as the SR805 cannot convert any other signal format into DTS HD Master nor Dolby TrueHD it can only pass it through which is the purpose.

There has been a lot of confusion about this issue. I also have the PS3 running via HDMI into the SR805. The PS3 cannot pass DTS-HD MA onto the SR805 and so, therefore, no DTS-HD MA even though Kingdom of Heaven is stored in this format. The SR805 can pass through LPCM 7.1 at 48kHz but that's it.

I would agree, you should try the 605 by Onkyo. Its a fantastic reciever if you have 1080p output on your mind.

I own the 605 and love it. If you have $1K to spend, definitely get the 805. It has more features and is worth the price difference.

I'm enjoying my Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH. It's right at the $1,000 mark. 1080p, DTS-HD Master Audio, TrueHD, etc. I'm very happy with it so far.

Onkyo 605

I've had mine for a month or two now and LOVE it. Can't beat the price either. In my opinion, it does everything you need it to do right now. It may be worth getting a new receiver in a few years as the PS3 and BDs get more powerful and capabilities expand, but for right now, you can't beat the 605.

I would strongly recommend, that if you really want a cutting edge product that performs well, you may want to wait a few months if you can do it. The PS3 is just a half step ahead of almost all of the other products on the market and companies like Denon and Yamaha should have some first rate engineered products to market by this Fall and should be debuting them in early September at CEDIA.

Definitely the route I am going, but I already own a receiver.
