Default Zulu (UK) plays on US Panasonic DMP-BD30

I just received this blu-ray from Amazon.com (UK) yesterday and I must admit, having seen this film about 70 times and owning it on just about every format (including beta), this is the best presentation of the film I've ever seen! Picture quality is fantastic (you can see facial blemishes, etc.) and even though the blu-ray only offers a stereo soundtrack, considering the age of the film, this is a must buy in my opinion. Of course perhaps I'm biased because I own an original UK movie poster for this film too!

Hi RL, the picture is absolutely stunning-the best transfer on a BD, I've seen. Anyone in the US should be ok playing this-it's"region free"-see http://blurayregioncodes.com/index.php?region=b.

Enjoy!

I can confirm this. I have the BD30 and the movie plays just fine.

This version of the movie is also complete. I saw this movie when it was first released in 1964 and the Blu-Ray movie contains scenes that are excluded from SD and VHS tape versions.

The movie looks fantastic!

Thanks for the assurances ... Just arrived in today's mail, and it is simply amazing. I have it on VHS and Laser Disc (remember them) and this one is so perfect I am for once speechless. Every blade of parched grass, every mountain crest, every weapon, every movement, every drop of sweat is there in perfect register. I sat in a theater and saw this film fives times when it came out in 1964, and I cannot remember all this detail, all this color. If you buy one more Blu Ray DVD before the end of the year make this that choice. Thanks for letting me know that YES it plays in the USA and on Panasonic equipment too.

This may be the only decent release of Zulu on BD for a while. In the US it isn't owned by Paramount and has actually gone Public Domain, which means unless a third party that cares (Criterion again?) picks the film up, the UK Blu-ray is probably your best bet. Especially since any US prints are probably crap by now.

Giving it as a present this Christmas...very happy it's entirely region-free (extras included).

FYI. Amazon USA is showing a release date of 16th December. However the picture they show is the UK release.

Even though the full listing shows that release date, the search listing says "Sign up to be notified...", so the release date is unconfirmed. This is probably because Amazon.com will import the UK region-free Paramount disc and sell it at high markups (this has been a recent trend).

In the USA, Paramount does not own the rights to Zulu; in fact it is Public Domain here. So they would never directly release a US Blu-ray unless they picked up the US rights.

I was not aware Zulu was in the public domain in the U.S. That means no major studio is going to release it on Blu-ray in the U.S. anytime soon.

Just ordered this today...it's about 22 dollars shipped from Amazon UK for anyone in the States interested in picking this up.

Picture looks absolutely insane (judging by the screen grabs on DVD Beaver). Can't wait to see this one!
