Default Disney's 'Tron' Reboot

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...ey-film-982575

Disney is planning to get back on the grid.

The studio is in the very early stages of development for a new Tron movie, with Oscar-nominated actor Jared Leto circling to star, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

No writer has been hired at this exploratory stage, and no filmmaker is involved. Justin Springer, who co-produced Tron: Legacy and exec produced the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion, will produce. Leto and and his producing partner Emma Ludbrook would also be involved in some producing capacity if the project moves forward.

Tron was the 1982 Disney movie set in the fantastic world inside a computer program, a cyberspace called the Grid. Starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, the film wasn’t a hit at the time but was influential with its envelope-pushing special effects and drew a cult following in the years after due to its imaginative story.

In 2010, Disney revisited the world with Tron: Legacy, which starred Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and brought back Bridges. Joseph Kosinski directed. The expensive movie made $400 million worldwide, good enough to warrant interesting in a sequel.

But it’s been a series of shutdowns and restarts for a sequel and just as it seemed it was heading towards pre-production, the studio pulled the plug for good in 2015.

But computer programs never die, it seems, they just get upgrades.

Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script.

So instead of just going through with Tron 3, we're getting a reboot? Sounds about right.

Not gonna get excited about Leto. His last big-budget movie was a disaster, and he was terrible in it.

Reboot?

Well, let's hope it's good. I was sold with the trailers for TRON: Legacy, so hopefully when a trailer eventually comes out I will have a good understanding of what's to come.

Not two days ago Tron: Legacy director, Joseph Kosinksi said that his plans for the proposed third film titled, Tron: Ascension was placed on hold by Disney. Reason of explanation for this is Disney has a full plate of "successful" franchises such as their Marvel, Star Wars, and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises. Disney didn't want to risk moving forward on the next Tron movie because it might not be as much of a hit like those other properties are.

Now there are talks of rebooting again?

Disney, why? A sequel would be better, but I am sure it will be fine.

This sounds stupid. Make a sequel or bury the franchise, don't restart it.

Ironically, of all the franchises where the term "reboot" is appropriate, this probably fits best lmao

Ok, I'm on board with this only IF they get their heads out their butts, produce a properly polished script, reign in the budget and take their time doing all the special effects needed WHILST having a proper trilogy arc seeded in or at least though of.

Tron Uprising was actually going to be the 3rd movie and it sounded from what I watched and read pretty good. Should they have basically reigned in what they did badly on legacy then Uprising would have been quite a success.

I guess for this one instead of sending his costars used condoms and live rats he can stick a USB cord up his ass and "hardwire" himself into the system?

I'm half expecting to see a light cycle on the 101, and I'll know it's him and his "method" lol

Well, we'll always have the sequel with the beautiful Olivia Wilde.

It should be illegal and punishable by death to reboot films nowadays...its a disease spreading like cancer.

I may end up watching it when it finally comes out, but as of right now I have zero interest in it. It's not like more people would go and see the reboot rather than the sequel many of us have been waiting years for.

Like DanTheMan said, I guess we can at least be thankful we have Legacy with Olivia Wilde. Now this news is even more reason to cherish that one I suppose.
