My wife suggested getting a 360 because she wanted a videogame system in the bedroom.(PS3 and PS2 in the living room) Of course I agreed because you can not have too many game systems but I told here it would not be until at least September when they finally release the code name "Falcon" 360's with the new processors.

Personally, I don't think that all 360's are doomed to die...
I've had one since launch and I have never had a problem with it. I think Microsoft screwed up when they were planning on how to properly ventilate this thing really... The only reason mine has remained in working order I think is because I have always had it on an AV shelf that was open to the air. I also keep my house pretty cold year round, so I don't think it has ever had a chance to really get all that hot. Playing it for hours, and it is still cool to the touch.... The only electronics equipment that I own that gets hot is my reciever because I blast that puppy for hours and hours, but even then the internal fan rarely has to come on, because the environment is so open and cool. Its a real shame that Microsoft has messed up so poorly, but atleast they are trying to fix it. For everyone claiming how money hungry they are, they are making an effort to fix their mistakes, and that should count for something. It would be interesting if Sony and Microsoft just teamed up together and made a system for next generation... Sony is the best at making the latest cutting edge hardware and building the best systems, but Microsoft is better at making those systems user friendly to developers and online infrastructure. Either way, its good to know if my 360 craps out I can get it fixed for the next year and a half or so. Its also good to know that I don't have to worry about my PS3 breaking at all... |

Imagine, just while engaged in a key online experience the machine drops dead? Yay, it won't cost you anything to fix. How are they going to pay you back for all those hours of fun you've lost?
It seems the horror stories can't possibly do much to help sales going forward. Won't people tend to wait and see if the new design solves the reliability issues? Gary |

If he has 600 million worth of shares(I have no idea of the amount) and sells 6 million dollars worth, than yes that makes a huge difference than if he only had 10 million dollars worth of shares. Executives sell shares all the time.

It isn't the gain or loss to the person ho dumped the stock, its the loss to the person who bought them that the laws were made for. A multimillionaire sells some stock and some poor shlub buys it and loses 50% of their retirement savings.
Having said that, it dosn't look like there is any appreciable loss in value of the stock since the announcement. |

I would hope not for only $6M sold. That is nothing when compared to the value of all outstanding stocks.

Sold: 200,000 Holds: 809,462 He sold off 20% of his holdings. Hardly a tiny fraction. But the amount doesn't matter. The timing does. Why didn't he wait to resolve the problem in his division before selling? Gary |

hmmm...
the irony here is maybe, not blu-ray killing the 360, yet the quality of the 360 might be its own killer. Go Blu Ray! |

I never heard of Robert Bach until we saw the share sale story. Then he makes these announcements. It is his 15 minutes for sure! |

lol, probably the same people who still praise them for rushing to the market with hardware that simply wasn't ready.

That is my main thought too about why this warranty does not bring the 360 back to firm ground with gamers. 1stly, given that heat causes 360-failures and consoles get hottest when the epic games come out (in the sense that gamers log the most hours with such games), the warranty is not quite going to make up for the PITA of taking, for example, the halo 3 disc out and sending the console for repairs. 2ndly, potential buyers being cognizant of the failure-rate is going to reduce sales anyways. I really think MS should accept the red ink and redo the h/w design. Alternative, as I mentioned earlier, is to scrape along for 3 years on "extended warranties" somehow and then release the xbox3 in 2009-10 with high def drive (BD ![]() hell, if they ask nicely enough, Sony might help out with h/w design (har) |

As an FYI - a lot of corporations actually require some executives to sell of shares at certain time schedules, or he may have had a hold in place. (Companies can also require you to KEEP your stock for a specified time period, too.) 20% isn't a concern. 50% and more raises eyebrows. 80% or more is an insider trading scandal waiting to happen. (But you should never own single stocks anyway, so WTF?)
That said, I'd imagine this article is true. There probably is a design flaw, or a misconfiguration or incorrectly crossed chip that MAY or MAY NOT result in a failure. In the auto industry, they're obligated to perform a recall. But since there's no safety concern here with a video game console, MS is obviously taking this on a case-by-case basis. I'm actually proud of them for extending the warranty. At least it shows they care. To recall EVERY Xbox would just be stupid. There's millions out there performing w/o a problem (knock on wood). |
