I for one wouldnt doubt if it took a good while - Lucas took 4ever to put them on DVD. Other than that, I dont have a clue.

It all depends on how quickly Blu Ray takes off. I think it might arrive faster than it did on DVD, but I think we'll be a good while away yet. I can wait to be honest, the DVD's look nice upscaled on my PS3. It's not as big an issue as it was with VHS to DVD - but I do still look forward to them coming.
I'm more excited these days about the release of Disney animation on Blu Ray. |

Well I imagine Star Wars wil be released once HD-DVD is dead and Toshiba reveals that thier players could play Blu-Ray all along and laughs. But anyways I see Blu Stars Wars coming in a huge boxset for about $200 later next year. Maybe this Holiday season if they use the force to speed up the process of taking the film and remastering it top to bottom making it, Better than Perfect, Blu-Ray.

Lucas won't release anything for a LONG while on a new format. I'm guessing we won't see Indiana Jones until the 4th movie is out on DVD. That will be the first Lucus film. If that sells well, then maybe 6 months later he will release more.

Lucas has little interest in giving us what we want, until he gets tired of the endless petitions demanding it. He totally insulted the Star Wars fans who wanted the original versions of Eps 4, 5, and 6, when he released them on DVDs that were NOT anamorphic. What a di*k. |

Do you have to be abusive about George Lucas? They are his movies and he can do what he wants with them.
I'm a longtime Star Wars fan of 30 years and I don't feel insulted by anything he's done, and I actually think the remastered DVD editions are, in most cases better than the original theatrical versions. He doesn't hold a blaster pistol to your head and force you to buy every iteration of the movie he's ever released, and to be fair, there are plenty of other movies which have had far more re-releases on DVD than Star Wars has had. I think the Lucas bashing that goes off on Internet forums is distasteful and plain nasty. George Lucas has actually contributed a huge amount to modern day film-making besides Star Wars. A lot of it has happened because of the success of Star Wars, but he should be applauded for the technological advancements that have been made through the years. Many films which we've enjoyed over the past 30 years would never have been possible without George Lucas and Star Wars. And for better or worse, he's responsible for transforming the landscape of movie-making and movie-marketing over the last 30 years. I don't see any reasons for calling him a d*ck. |

In reading up on how they prepared the masters for the DVD release of Star Wars, it would appear that the masters are restored to the best quality they could possibly be, so all that really needs to be done is transferring them to bd, hopefully with kick ass uncompressed audio.
I enjoy Star Wars quite a bit, but I'd much rather have the Indiana Jones movies any day. |

About 18 months before the OT release, a friend of a friend that owns a full set of 35mm prints of the Trilogy got a letter from Lucas, demanding the return of the prints that yes, were probably in his possession slightly illegally (typically prints are returned to reclaim the silver, and sets often "accidentally" not destroyed and sold on the open market). But since he'd had them 20 years, there wasn't much they could do about it legally. My guess is that they don't have good copies of the unaltered versions any more, and that to reassemble them would have cost more than they were likely to make to satisfy a fairly small (judging by sales) but vocal contingent. As long as Han shoots first I'm happy |

Funny to know that Lucas thought that Close Encounters of the Third Kind was going to outsell his Star Wars massively. He goes to see Spielberg for some tips and then come to an agreement, seeing as they are old friends, Speilberg says I will give you 2% of anything that is made from Close Encounters and you give me 2% from anything made by Star Wars.
No wonder Spielberg always looks happy. |

Lucas ONLY released the films on DVD because HD had launched but hadn't reached general public awareness. If he'd waited any longer some who bought them might have held out for HD versions instead. I am - and will only buy them if they are a quality product. Even after all of the wait they were crappy transfers even for DVD, as has already been pointed out. When they do appear on Blu-ray (if they ever do) they will again be lousy transfers and will probably NOT have lossless audio, but the same audio tracks already on the DVDs. Instead, they will PROBABLY be on one-time or limited-viewing download - with lousy transfers and obviously one one choice for audio which will probably be lousy. Lucas released a new VHS set every couple of years once they hit the street because people would buy them for the "new" extras and because of the degraded quality of their now 10-times-watched/stretched tapes. He did release two sets on LaserDisc - presumably because they were just optically encoded prints of the VHS versions. Most buck for the least work and marketed for the greatest profit. That's Lucas. It's pretty sick. MOST other producers of products with high demand understand and abide by the fact that there is a compromise between their desire to get the best return for their product and the customers expectation of quality. That's completely lost on Lucas. |

Calling Lucas names is going overboard, but apologizing for what is obviously fairly reprehensible treatment of the fans is almost worse. They guy did a lot of great things we should all be happy about. And we should be honest and up-front about that. But he has been stiffing fans on more than Star Wars for a long time. Indiana Jones on DVD only in 2003? That's pitiful, also. |

The latest DVD of the "Originals" is the THX LD, having for example STAR WARS video version 1 "reconstructed", with audio mix 6, and the SE SE version that has video version 4 with mix 8, on one case. If I'm not lost ![]() |
