If I remember right it starts off live action (grandma telling kid about a Balto statue and the significance of it) so that may have turned some kids off from it. It's a good movie otherwise, got a lot of play on TV.

Weird that the Nostalgia Critic reviewed this so recently and it just happens to come out on Blu-ray... not that I'm suggesting any conspiracies here!
I imagine Walmart will put this on its online store eventually, right? It's odd these would show up on shelves without any fanfare at all. Maybe they got the stock early? |

I can't find it on the Walmart website. The closest Walmart to me is about an hour away with traffic. I called them and they don't have it.

Fun fact: For whatever reason, Universal wanted to use BD-50 discs for this and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, even though the film encodes themselves (without extras as they are) would only take up a BD-25. So, they've added huge .DAT files to each disc, measuring 9 GB and 7 GB respectively. I tried to open one with a special editor, and the program took up over 90% of my PC's RAM doing so. It worked, but it spat out a bunch of 0s.
I don't know what these files are, and they don't appear to be videos, but this reminds me of what Universal did to the Blu-ray of We're Back: A Dinosaur Story and a Jeff Dunham Blu-ray, two more discs which were also released on the same date. It's kind of weird that they do this, and I'm not complaining, because I love me some dual-layered Blu-rays, but I cannot claim to understand the point. Perhaps it's simply some kind of authoring error. Also, I had no idea that the overseas DVD editions of Balto have a 28-minute Making of featurette that was not on the US DVD, and is not available on the Blu-ray, either. ![]() |
