Thanks for the tech review and for the screenshots! This will be my first viewing of this movie. I might have seen it growing up but if I did I don't remember it.

If you use brickseek it'll take you to the item page, but it says something like this is no longer available or something like that. Seems like a placeholder.. Just needs to be updated

It's a great, overlooked movie (it got released shortly after Toy Story and got creamed at the box office), and I'm very happy to have a "hard copy" of the movie in proper widescreen for the first time since laserdisc.

If I remember right it starts off live action (grandma telling kid about a Balto statue and the significance of it) so that may have turned some kids off from it. It's a good movie otherwise, got a lot of play on TV.

Weird that the Nostalgia Critic reviewed this so recently and it just happens to come out on Blu-ray... not that I'm suggesting any conspiracies here!

I imagine Walmart will put this on its online store eventually, right? It's odd these would show up on shelves without any fanfare at all. Maybe they got the stock early?

!

One of my childhood favorites! Looks like I'm swinging by Wal-Mart for the first time in a while (might grab Major Payne and Fievel Goes West while at it).

I can't find it on the Walmart website. The closest Walmart to me is about an hour away with traffic. I called them and they don't have it.

I was able to pick up both Balto and Fievel Goes West today. My store had 4 of each title on a multi sided end cap.

Now bring on the Problem Child double feature!

So psyched for this! I can't believe it took so long to get Balto on blu. Going to have to head to Walmart soon to pick up both Balto and Fievel Goes West.

Fun fact: For whatever reason, Universal wanted to use BD-50 discs for this and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, even though the film encodes themselves (without extras as they are) would only take up a BD-25. So, they've added huge .DAT files to each disc, measuring 9 GB and 7 GB respectively. I tried to open one with a special editor, and the program took up over 90% of my PC's RAM doing so. It worked, but it spat out a bunch of 0s.

I don't know what these files are, and they don't appear to be videos, but this reminds me of what Universal did to the Blu-ray of We're Back: A Dinosaur Story and a Jeff Dunham Blu-ray, two more discs which were also released on the same date. It's kind of weird that they do this, and I'm not complaining, because I love me some dual-layered Blu-rays, but I cannot claim to understand the point. Perhaps it's simply some kind of authoring error.

Also, I had no idea that the overseas DVD editions of Balto have a 28-minute Making of featurette that was not on the US DVD, and is not available on the Blu-ray, either.

The 28-minute featurette would have been a cool extra State-side. Bummer.

Rock-a-Doodle would be awesome, I haven't watched that since VHS days. The DVD is OOP and expensive.

Gonna call my local Walmart tomorrow and see if they have copies of this and Fievel Goes West before I invest time walking down there to grab copies of each.
