I purchased a PS3 because at the time it was the most for the money for watching blu-ray movies. I don't play video games. But I do like that I can download movies and tv shows once Sony gets that plan into action. I have even quit using my Bose Acoustic Wave System in favor of my PS3 to listen to my CD collection. I don't have a receiver, but use my tv speakers and the sound is better than the Bose Acoustic Wave System. It's the larger Bose Acoustic Wave System, not the smaller clock radio...
I based purchasing the PS3 on articles I read about storage capacity. The PS3 has so much capability and Sony has not even tapped into it yet. Sony has said this console will be around for the next 10 years. So much capability I love my PS3 |

I think a lot more than five percent of PS3's are predominantly used for Blu Ray movies. I am thinking of buying a PS3 in the near future and I would have to think 90% of the time it will be for watching movies but that's just me.

Yes, I guarantee it's higher than 5%, and I'll bet even 5% represents a lot of Blu-ray disc sales.
Here's more of the absurdity from the HD DVD camp: http://www.smarthouse.com.au/HD/HD_DVD/V9F4A9G8 |

I subscribe to Home Theater Magazine and they were revewing Samsungs new Blu Ray player and they were suggesting that people buy the PS3 because it is cheaper and can do more than the Samsung. Yet the people at Warner Brothers/ Toshiba don't count it as a Blu Ray player because it is part of a video game console and not a stand alone unit, how do they figure no body is watching BD movies on PS3? I bet they don't count the Blu Ray drive in Sony's laptop either. One of the things with any type of numbers is they can always be twisted to say what you want them to say.

A couple of weeks back I was at a press appreciation event for Warner Bros. Q3 announcements. Their feature focus was on the upcoming release of '300'. From personal experience I can attest to an evident support to the idea that they (WB) are PRO HD-DVD. Firstly, their press appreciation events always have Toshiba representatives at the location with Hi-Def TVs and HD-DVD players prostituting their product. No sign of Sony or Blu-ray reps to counterpoint them! Also, at this particular event, as part of their presentation, the PR rep blatantly said the following when discussing the formats on which '300' was going to be available;
"Available on DVD and HD-DVD July 31st... oh, and on HD-DVDs bastard child format, Blu-ray. But we won't talk about them." That one struck me, not only as a harsh, but highly unprofessional. So, I think it's safe to say that WB is only humouring us Blu-ray fans until the balance sways... if it ever does! All I can do is wait for the world's largest slice of humble pie to be served on WB's plate. Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 07-27-2007 at 07:27 PM. |

I say BDA need to drop Warner from their board of directors and promote Paramount, as long as Paramount blu-ray exclusive

Hahaha... I have his e-mail address, but I can't hand it out... unless I want to sacrifice my priveledges of getting free review material!!! Would you throw that away? And besides, it seems to be a company attitude. This one individual just happened to vocalize himself in an inappropriate manner regarding that larger corporate perspective.

Well perhaps you should let him know for us how disappointed we are in him.
The fact that he considers a format that more customers, more companies, and even more retailers support to be inferior and even something not worth talking about is upsetting. If he really wants his company (or his job) to succeed, he should watch what he says and realize he just offended a large community of early adopters and film enthusiasts. If his opinion is the opinion of his company, perhaps they should consider what they are saying. |
