You don't like pro-2nd amendment propaganda films? Come on, now. If everyone had a gun and carried it on their person at all times, there would be 0 crime and we would live in a utopia. It's a scientific fact. Plus we would all be able to rebel against the nuclear- and biological weapon-owning government should they become tyrannical.

Yeah. It's wise to overlook the supposed message about gun control in order to fully enjoy Unforgiven.

(Apparently, people who want there to be no gun ownership and therefore significantly reduced risk of gun violence are just about as bad as people who want all the guns and want everybody to be shooting at each other all the time. And communists too.)

It helps that it makes absolutely no sense on those terms and therefore easy to disavow.

Clint and Morgan's characters are supposedly wise and responsible enough to own and use guns, but wind up killing men because the misogynist sheriff didn't give the girl that they disfigured any justice. And it winds up getting Morgan killed himself.

Hackman's character isn't a sadistic misogynist because he's pro gun control or vice versa.

There isn't any coherent suggestion that less gun control in Big Whiskey would have made things any better for the people that lived there.

Hopefully Wal-Mart has this out tomorrow. I was surprised to find 3:10 to Yuma on UHD there a few days ago.

if anything, a 4k tv and player made me love 1080p blu rays even more

Same experience here. I upgraded all my equipment. UHD didn't do enough of anything for me and I was questioning which version I preferred at times, which is a debate I shouldn't have to have with myself. I think one day in the future dolby vision could make UHD worthwhile.

I only meant that it was not quite a Lawrence of Arabia or Star Wars type title that could make me lose my patience in holding out for the release I want to buy. I don't care about political messages in movies as long as I enjoy them. Same with my friends

I might upgrade in a few years or something when prices come down, but space/size is also a factor for me (right now I'm happy with my current set up)

I've been waiting for things to settle in UHD, but the new Sony Bravia OLED may finally push me over the edge. I've been waiting for a more affordable native 4K projector, but I'm getting impatient. The Sony XBR-A1E is about $5500 for the 65".

IMHO the LG OLEDs are just as good for a lower price. I really want the 65", but it's still $2700.

So to get the new remastered regular Blu-ray version I have to buy this 4K set? Fine by me since I plan on upgrading eventually (already purchased a 4K player) but I still think it's a grimy move on WB's part to only make the regular BD available this way.

I've never considered this movie to be explicitly pro-gun. I always viewed it as an affirmation of America's glorious frontier heritage on minding your own business.

What happens when they decide to go 8k then your worthless 4k will be obsolete and you will have to upgrade once again. Nope I'm not falling for it again, The buck stops at blu-ray for me

haha, don't try to ruin one of my favourite films for me. That's not what Unforgiven is about at all.
Unforgiven is about the dark side of violence and the actual repercussions of the kind of action that is usually portrayed so romantically in the genre. The genre in general relies on guns and violence for its entertainment, which is fine if you don't think too hard about it, but Unforgiven makes you think, and it's as anti-violence and anti-gun as you can get within that framework.

4K UHD Blu-ray may prove to be a viable format or it may not, but it's worth a gamble, especially when these combo packs are not that much more expensive.

The marketing decision to release these initial 4K UHD Blu-ray releases as combo packs with their respective standard Blu-rays is a wise and practical decision for all parties.
I tend to agree... Even though I'm not sure at this point if I'll ever adopt 4K UHD... I figure if its a rare movie that I love enough to double-dip, or triple-dip in this case, I may as well save myself from potentially quadruple-dipping, and opt for the combo pack. I think I'll wait for the price to go down first though.

The truth would not help you in the near-term and the industry definitely doesn't want you to figure it out. So, in other words, the truth is inconvenient. Here it goes: size matters

Image quality of a Scope aspect film could hit the max on a 65" panel, but size is what is needed. That scope image area is tiny!

The industry isn't ready to introduce consumer friendly projection yet, but I think that's the future. Consider an ultra short throw unit that sits at the front of the room with the UHD player and a speaker bar (for non-home theaters). That's what I believe is inevitable.

2 factors on why 8K is pointless:

1) There are only three or four hundred films that were shot in 65mm that could take advantage of this.

2) The aforementioned 65mm films would have to have received 8K DIs or at least 4K. Most of them haven't even been given recent 2K scans.
