Default Bluray 1080p Question/Problem

Hi all,

I have upgraded my pc recently so that I can watch Bluray on my pc.

I have the newest and also update for WinDVD9 Plus Bluray software installed.
The newest version of Arcsoft Total Media Theatre.

Now my question/problem is when I insert a Bluray disc and play it, the quality is amazing. It uses a 1920x1080 (Full 1080p) resolution at the menu and all but as soon as I click play to watch the movie itself the quality goes down. It wont fully use the 1920x1080 resolution anymore.
I tried playing "The Golden Compass" , Transformers and some more and they all seem to do this. The Golden Compass which I have right in front of me says that it will play at 1080p so what gives?

Oh almost forgot to mention that the Behind the scenes ( Disc 2 of transformers and The Golden Compass) also will run in full 1920x1080.

I have tried using a different DVI Cable, different bluray players and got the same results.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

My PC Specs:

BenQ FP241VW (24" LCD with a 1920x1200 Resolution) I am using the DVI connection.
EVGA GTX260
LG Bluray Drive
Creative X-Fi

Let me know what more info. you need.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum Rockblaster13. Interesting indeed. First, is there a message that actually states that you're not running Transformers or Golden Compass in 1080p? Are you freezing the movie and going to the desktop to see the native resolution in which it is playing at? Do you have the most up-to-date drivers for that GTX260? I have a EVGA 9600 512Mb and I have Transformers HD-DVD and it looks great. I will tell you something also about Transformers. I've seen both on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. The HD-DVD one is cheaper and looks so much better than the Blu-Ray version in my opinion. Back to the topic at hand.

It might be the DVI cable. I just checked your monitor on the BenQ site. There was one thing I didn't see under the description of your monitor: HDCP Compliant. My Acer X193WB 19" says clearly that it is HDCP compliant and Windows Vista Ready. I have mine going from the video card via the component dongle and sending the signal to my Toshiba 51H83 rear projection TV with a 25ft component cable and there is no drop in picture quality at all. I know the monitor says full HD capable on the BenQ site, but it clearly doesn't say HDCP compliant. Don't you hate that? You can also see if the connection is correct. There are different types of DVI cables as well. Your connection on the back of that monitor is clearly DVI-D. Make sure that cable is the one as well that complies with your monitor and videocard. That can be tricky as well.

Sometimes it's really hard to diagnose an issue if the person on this end is not there or if they haven't had the same experience. Try using the component end as well. You should have a component dongle that comes with the EVGA 260 as well. Or if it came with the HDMI to DVI convertor, then try that as well also because that monitor has an HDMI output on the back as well. Nice monitor, but I wish it clearly stated it is HDCP compliant. That is so important these days. Lastly, try to fool around with the display settings. Have you updated the firmware on the LG Drive yet? So many problems here and there. Very interesting. Hopefully, these were some good options to fool around with. Nice monitor. A little on the expensive side though. Good luck.

Hello Bluraysonyes. I checked EVGA's site and all of the 260's are HDCP and 1080 compliant. This is no problem at all. He might want to update the drivers or it could be a software issue as well.

Ok I finished testing everything.

I tried different Nvidia's drivers.
I used another HDCP LCD and I get the same results. (My BenQ LCD is HDCP)

My LG drive has the newest firmware. I used AnyDVD to remove all the encryption (from my own discs) and still get the same results.

Tested on Cyberlink PowerDVD and get same results.

The only thing I could't test as yet is the HDMI. Cause I don't have a DVI>HDMI adapter or cable. But I will order one right away.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks again for all the help.

As you can see the:
1st Pic I posted is in 1920x1080 - Disc 1 - Disc Menu of "The Golden Compass"
High Quality super nice picture

2nd Pic: I again in 1920x1080 - Disc 2 - Behind the Scenes Disc
High Quality Super Nice picture

3rd Pic: Is NOT in 1920x1080 - Disc 1- Movie Disc - Playing the movie
This is kinda like a DVD quality really..

Now you guys can exactly see what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Golden Compass got only 3.5/5.0 picture quality.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...87&show=review

Try some 5.0/5.0 movies like i,Robot and see how it goes.
