Leaving aside the whole "Theatrical re-releases have been dead since 1998" issue...

Wouldn't hold out much hopes for the other buzz-fueled "Oscar favorites" on the list, either.
(Except for Frost/Nixon getting Cheap Wishful-Thinking Golden Globes nominations, and the Oscars reduced to just cribbing them since they don't have time to make real nominations anymore with the shortened schedule...)

Caught the F/N trailer, and maybe it was just having seen Anthony Hopkins' "Nixon" again recently, but I just stared at Frank Langella's performance thinking "What is he DOING?? "

WB just announced that they will in fact re-release it and with IMAX

http://www.superherohype.com/news/ba...ws.php?id=7859

I missed it in IMAX so I'll be seeing it there even after owning the Blu-ray.

When I read the thread title, I thought they were already announcing their home video double dip.

I was like, but... it's not even officially released yet...

This sounds like a dandy idea though. Can't beat IMAX, not even the best home theatre systems can boast what IMAX can. I've already got my BD in hand, but if I have the opportunity, I'll definitely try and get out to IMAX to see this thing again.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I was a little confused because I had read the updated story. There's no way I'm missing this re-release.

I liked Little Miss Sunshine. It's not a movie I could watch over and over though.

Juno I didn't see. Looked like it tried to hard have cool dialogue like Buffy & Gilmore Girls.

Maybe you need help telling jokes. You need a setup and a punchline -- you don't stick the punchline in the middle of the setup. If you had concluded with Beverly Hills Chihuahua, everyone would have laughed. By sticking it in the middle you just confused people.

Well LMS was a great movie, Juno was just way overhyped and I did not see what was so great about it at all. But Slumdog is a all around great and original film, and if it does not get nominated I will be very surprised, and I will be even more surprised if TDK gets nominated.

My wife and I love Juno. The dialog in it is so dryly sarcastic that it's hilarious. It's got cute catchy music, some great performances, and a nice little twist ending that strays away from typical Hollywood.

...maybe you're too young for it?

It was to dry for me, and the sarcasm got old. I hate indie music with a passion so there you go I hated the soundtrack...I thought I would like it but it was the total opposite.

How does me saying who I think will win best supporting actor make me a know-it-all? If I truly knew, I wouldnt be here posting about it. But imo Kevin Bacon in Frost/Nixon is more of the actor/character the academy usually chooses

It's not music I would sit and listen to, but it matched the tone and mood of the film quite well. I'd have to really hate an artist or song to let it affect my overall opinion of a movie in that negative of a fashion, though. Never felt the sarcasm got old. There are a million comedies with straightforward humor (ie potty humor) that are available, so it was nice to have something different.

But hell, I liked Little Miss Sunshine too. The whole movie honestly irritated me but the payoff at the end literally had me falling out of my chair laughing.

If you take a look at my collection I own pretty much ZERO comedies, so I may not be the typical audience for those kind of flicks.

I think I hated the soundtrack so much that it made me hate the movie somewhat, I mean I really really disliked it.

THANK YOU!
Heath's performance (while great) was just much more apparent.

Aaron Eckhart + Harvey Dent + Two Face = Heath Ledger + Joker.

Default Jan. 23rd re release

Quote:
Warner Bros. will re-release The Dark Knight on January 23 in a nationwide launch, guaranteeing that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office, reports Variety.

The film has earned $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally, leaving it less than $4 million short of the billion-dollar milestone. Only Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest have topped that mark.

The Dark Knight also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only Titanic.

The re-release will come six weeks after the DVD and Blu-ray Disc launch of The Dark Knight, set for Tuesday.

Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," he added
