Exclamation WB Drops The Dark Knight Rerelease Plans

Quote:
Superhero Hype! reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has dropped the plan to rerelease The Dark Knight in theaters in January. The studio was in talks with IMAX executive about bringing back the movie to a number of giant-screen venues, though it was uncertain whether the film would also return to conventional theaters.

Maybe they feel with the amount of BD or DVD they will be selling in the next few weeks, it won't make sense to re-release the movie in theaters, most will just be watching it at home?

but there's no experience like the big screen. i also think the original plan was to do it so oscar voters wouldn't forget it.

I think they are backing off their hopes for an Oscar.

Milk
Frost/Nixon
Changeling
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Curious Case of Benjiman Button
Valkyrie
Seven Pounds

will be nominated before TDK. And Milk or Frost/Nixon (which were better MOVIES than TDK) will win

I would throw away any Oscar I ever won (if any)...If Beverly Hills Chihuahua won best picture. Im pretty sure M. Night Shamalyan had something to do with that movie...lol

If Beverly Hills Chihuahua's name was even mentioned in the same article as Oscar, it would disgrace the Oscar name forever

that may be, but they are still hoping/thinking ledger will pull a best supporting actor win. which i personally believe he deserves. i haven't been that impressed by a performance in a long time. one that i didn't want to miss a minute of.

after getting the blu there is no way I will go back to the theatre. The picture quality just sucks there and I see it. My eyes are used to my set.

I would go see it in Imax if it were playing next month. I don't have an Imax nearby, but I will be near one next month and would go in a heartbeat.

I hope to soon say "there's no experience like my 120" projector screen"

I saw it twice in the theater this summer, there's no imax anywhere near us, so I'll just stay at home and enjoy my blu this winter...

I think the only nomination TDK will get is best supporting actor, and I doubt Heath wins though his role was great. But after seeing Slumdog last night I really think that has a strong chance of winning best picture, Milk has a lot to live up to now.

I doubt it. I think the Academy has started a trend of nominating some indy/young movie to try to seem hip. They did it with Little Miss Sunshine two years ago, and Juno last year. Despite what some people were hoping, I doubt either really had any chance of winning. Slumdog is probably this year's version of those. They seem like movies people obsess over while they are out, but have no real lasting appeal years down the road (although the same can be said of some of the movies that win anyway).

The Dark Knight will be nominated. It was a great film.

If you think Beverly Hills Chihuahua will be nominated, then you don't know very much about Oscars or film in general.

No one is saying TDK wasnt a great movie. But its not really an Oscar movie.

And if you didn't realize BHC being nominated was a joke, its time for you to go get some help
