Default New Plasma on the way...

No reason to post this, other than being CRAZY excited about my new screen, coming in 10 days!

...crackinhedz...I may be looking for some help with settings for this bad boy...any chance you could help a brother out?

Can't wait to get it set up and see the first BD...now just got to decide what it will be! Trying to decide between Cars, Rattatoule, Casino Royale, Black Hawk Down, or something else.

DAMN...how do I wait until next weekend

Smile Well, that's the top of line!

I've been warming up and watching my TH58-PZ800U and it is the best TV I've even seen. Yours is probably better.

You know, it's weird because at Best Buy they all looked like crap, but I think it's the lousy signal they feed to them.

Enjoy!

TomHuffman settings

...after reading around a while on the 85u, came across this guy. He's a pro calibrator with an 85u himself. This is the settings he personally came up with. It should give you a ballpark idea, if not precise settings.

Default I just watched Kung Fu Hustle!

And I was blown away again on my Panny plasma. Granted, this is not the greatest Pq movie, but I love it for other reasons. It just has more impact on the plasma.

Plasmas are better!!!!!

Thanks for the initial settings stuff, I'll be sure to post back and let you know the results.

Any thoughts on the best 'first BD'?

crackinhedz...how close do you think these may be to ballpark for the 850? Even if it's in the infield, it'd be a decent start maybe?

I'm definitely gonna get a pro calibration after break-in, but I want to at least be close 'outta the box' if you know what I mean

By impact, I mean: the contrast, black levels, "pop", 3-dimensional effect.

All of those things. There's plenty of that in Kung Fu Hustle. It's a humorous action movie with great sound and characters. The plasma looks so good that it makes you think you're seeing something for the first time. Then you enjoy it all over again because you think about it the way you did the first time you saw it.

This is what I call "rewatch" value, just like replay value in games.

I can't wait to rewatch a bunch of my Blu-rays! Especially Band of Brothers.
