My new plasma is supposed to be here next week and The Dark Knight will also be coming to my house the same week, so this is a little tempting if you know what I mean
![]() ![]() Just wanted to know how much you would recommend breaking in before I begin watching Blu-ray's on it. I will most likely break it in and just wait because I'm extra cautious, but I just wanna hear your opinion. |

If all you want to do is watch a 2.5 hour movie with black bars, don't sweat it. It will not hurt anything. Just don't make a habbit of it (and don't play games with static HUDs) for the first 100-200 hours. Get the break-in DVD, run it for ~20 hours per day (or watch full screen programming), and in a week you'll be good to go.

Supposedly they do, and the breaking-in concept is just an added precaution.
I don't think it's really necessary. Just keep the brightness down for the first 100 hours or so and try to refrain from static images for long periods of time and you'll be fine. |

I wouldn't worry about it....... when you're done watching it, put a scene from a full-screen DVD (I would use a music DVD) on repeat, and ENJOY
![]() Just keep doing that process over-night etc..... for a few days, and you'll be done. NOTE: I wouldn't break it in at all, b/c I don't believe in BURN-IN, but that's just me. The above recommendation is for peace of mind if nothing else. |

Every time I see one of these threads I keep meaning to tell my little story but I never do.
Three years ago I went shopping for my first flat panel HDTV. After flip flopping between LCD and plasma for months I finally decided on a plasma. So I walk in to a well known local TV store and start looking around. Of course the salesmen catch the scent of someone with good credit and pounce on me! ![]() After talking to him for a few minutes I raise my concern about the plasma "burn-in" issue. He immediately shakes his head and says that Panasonic (which were the TV's I was looking at) has already made "burn-in" a non-issue. The pixels rotate or something like that (hey it's been three years, I don't remember what I had for dinner last night). I say "great" wrap it up! Then he tells me something about having to pay for it first. ![]() So anyhoo I get my TV and having total and absolute trust in a salesman (yeah, I know) I turn on my TV and immediately start playing multiple days and hours of a video game that has nothing but static images! I'm talking at least 16 hours in two days! ![]() Why? Because the salesman said I could! ![]() Now did I get image retention? You bet your arse I did. And did I freak because I thought I ruined my new $2500 HDTV? You can bet your arse again I did. But ya know what? After a few days of watching regular TV the image retention was gone like it was never there and I went on to play even more video games and watching movies without any problems. (Of course I've learned to never trust a salesman since) Do I recommend doing what I did? Not at all, but I'm just saying these TV's are not that delicate. A few hours of watching a movie shouldn't even phase it. BTW, I just got myself a new 42" Panny Plasma 800 series and I'm loving life. In fact, I've been putting in multiple nights of Resistance 2 online play. |

Well from what I've read on this thread, I guess that I feel safer not breaking it entirely correctly. Though I will still watch some widescreen things (2.40:1), I was wondering if things in 1.85:1 would count as fullscreen? Because it fills the screen even though its "widescreen"
blah blah blah, maybe I'll regret it later but I've read numerous places that burn-in isn't affected by these new generation Panny Plasmas, so who knows... wish me luck with this new TV ![]() |
