You think that's bad? It had a 82% drop this Friday in China. Paramount is so unlucky at this point.

Just in general, there's been too many "farting CGI animal" movies out in the past several years. Parents just don't want to schlep the family out for these when movies + concessions cost so damn much, especially when most of these films are mediocre sequels where they can just watch the earlier films at home for nothing. Superhero movies are going to hit the same wall soon.

Shame, I enjoyed TF5 quite a bit. It's sad that people aren't showing up.

Hopefully Apes doesn't underperform. Won't be surprised if it does though.

Well, despite comparisons with its predecessors, TF5 will have grossed almost 100 million in 11 days. I can only wish, say, Alien: Covenant had the same amount of people showing up.

Difference is, Transformers cost over $100M more than Covenant.

I think it's fatigue, more than anything. Now, I have zero evidence of this, but it's just a gut feeling.

Exactly. Comparing how much films gross without the context of how much they cost in the first place doesn't really get you very far. Also, it seems to me that I saw a lot more commercials, marketing for TF5 than for A:C.

Finally, remember that A:C was rated R.

For some reason the Apes movies always felt like they cater to the somewhat older crowd even though they are PG-13. I picture more people from say 27 and up enjoying the first 2 movies, kinda like the crowd that turned up for Gravity and Martian.

Above all, it's just rich storytelling supported by stellar CGI and mo-cap work by the actors. I think it will do just fine.

It has stiff competition week 2. Dunkirk and Valerian. Hopefully it has a big opening weekend.

Actually, people are more concerned for Valerian than Apes. The latter should do well.

Valerian isn't gonna be a moneymaker but its another sci-fi action movie so it will provide some competition.

Yeah, Valerian has a budget of like $200M. I doubt that Besson cares. I think it's just something he's always wanted to make. And if it loses money, so be it.

After that stupid scene about is it or is it not rape in T4, can you blame them? It was an awful sequel and still #1 that year I think....maybe this is just people righting that wrong?

I haven't seen it yet only cause I see 2 movies each outing and waiting to pair it with Spidey.

The chances of an R-rated adult movie beating a PG kids' movie are incredibly slim, no matter what the films are. Not to say that it's impossible. Just highly unlikely.

Hangover 2 beat Kung Fu Panda 2 back in 2011.

Yup, it's either RPX or Titan XC or equivalent for that film.
